CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2004-2006 Nissan Maxima has widespread transmission problems. It starts with the vehicle jerking when shifting, & progresses to full-blown transmission failure.
Maxima owners report spending $3,000 to replace the transmission, typically around when the odometer hits 100,000 miles.
There's a class action lawsuit filed in late 2011, & it is still in the "discovery" stage. Apparently, these things take time ... far too much time.

This 2006 Nissan Maxima SLE was purchased new by myself with 280 miles on it. . At 99,000 miles the car started jerking and shifting hard. I went to Orr Nissan and was told there is a defect in the transmission that Nissan was aware of but due to the way vehicle transmission work was being subbed out that the 100,000 complaints would never happen therefore a recall would not take place. I was able to get transmission rebuilt by the shop that does transmission work for Nissan for $2,500. Nissan quoted $5,200 and was going to send it to the shop I took it to. I had the work done (twice) and that problem is fixed.
Now 9K miles later, while driving down the road the dash panel started flickering and check engine light came on. The vehicle was parked for the day then the next morning "presto" everything was fine again. Now less than a week later the problem has returned and now gas gauge showing low fuel, check engine, and radio off and on. After driving 4-5 miles the fuel gauge returned to normal. I have spoke to several people and told it may be Unified Meter/AC amp at around $700.00. This also a defective part that Nissan will not own up too. Why can't Nissan take care of their clients. This is the LAST Nissan that I will purchase.
