CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2004-2006 Nissan Maxima has widespread transmission problems. It starts with the vehicle jerking when shifting, & progresses to full-blown transmission failure.

Maxima owners report spending $3,000 to replace the transmission, typically around when the odometer hits 100,000 miles.

There's a class action lawsuit filed in late 2011, & it is still in the "discovery" stage. Apparently, these things take time ... far too much time.

Maxima SE 3.5L

The door locks will work once and then lose power. The key fob will set the alarm but not lock the doors. You can not lock the doors with the switch even from the inside. Only way to lock and unlock is with the key. This is another Nissan manufacturing problem that they refuse to fix. Thousands of people have the same issue and is very costly to fix simply to ensure the safety of the people in the car and the car while being parked. You can get locked in the car and locked out of the car. If you lose your key, you are screwed.

Maxima LS 3.2

  • Automatic transmission
  • 20,000 miles

Periodically the drivers door locks by itself. You never ever leave the car without taking the keys. You leave the car in the garage with the door unlocked. You return to the car a minute later and the drivers door is locked. The other three doors are OK but if you ever leave the car with them locked assuming you can get back in by the unlocked drivers door you may be in for a surprise as when you return the drivers door will be locked all by itself.

To date it has been just annoying but I assure you someday down the road I will get locked out the car. Sometimes this happens two or three times a day and then it won't happed again for a week.

The dealer just ignores when you mention it by saying what do you want me to do. The answer is simple. FIX IT.
