I am the owner of a 2002 Nissan Maxima. The air bag warning light came and I took it to the dealer for repair. In my owners manual it states that seat belts and related systems are covered for the life of the vehicle. The service manager said that the parts are not covered. The air bags are directly related to the seat belt system. As long as the warning light is activated the air bag and seat belts will not operate. This unit is designed to only operate when there is a collision, and the vehicle has never been in an accident. The dealership is requiring a payment of $2800 for the repair. Part numbers Y851M-5Y800, 25567ar227, and 28556-5Y725 the vehicle only has 53000 mile on it and has been very well maintained. It should be the manufacturer's responsibility to cover this device on the warranty.
1. struck by a small deer on front bumper/grill 2. both front airbags deployed unnecessarily, and with very little damage to vehicle. Airbag caused minor unnecessary injury. 3. airbags, module, and seat belts must be replaced. Airbags are not available or back-ordered.
