Since I owned this car I have multiple issues. The check engine light is constantly on. I took the vehicle to a mechanic and I was told the code was indicating the coils were bad. Also, I have experienced the slip and tcs light come on. The vehicle shakes and loses power. On top that I can't get the car to pass inspection. My radio also has a electrical problems, it went dark. I feel we should all file a class action law suit.

I believe, the engine light problem was there since I bought it because after driving couple of months (1000-1500 miles) the light appeared. First, it will come and go after approx 61,000 miles it became permanent. In 2008 I took the vehicle to Nissan dealership bill kay at downers grove il paid approx. $2,000 for fixing the problem but after some time it again came up and started flashing. In 2010 again I took it to maineke auto work shop and got the ignition coils changed, silencer/exhaust changed and paid almost $1,200 but again the same problem of engine light came back. The problom goes on and on, recently I got the new battery and took it to the gerald Nissan at ogden ave. Naperville, il they said they changed the coils but light came back the very next day. I paid $800. Now they are again mentioning there is a problem with sensor. Please advise and help me with this problem. These cars are suppose to be sturdy and not have such problem so frequently and I am sick and tired of spending money on this car.

I have a 2000 Nissan Maxima and the slip / tcs / check engine light turns on then it starts to shake N looses power. Engine light blinks at times.. I replace all coils and spark plus with dealer and they tell me the I need to replace the engine coil harness which is around $1,000.. they say that these cars have the same problems.. I have in hand of many stories of people with the same problem. And in all the stories everyone is mad because there is no recall on this problem?

I have a 2000 Nissan Maxima. Recently the problems have been piling on. The air conditioner stopped working in the summer and the check engine light went on. The air conditioner needs a new pump and the "check engine" light I was told is the O2 sensor. Today is 1/27/13 and a week ago my power steering belt shredded. It caused the car to stall temporarily but I was able to drive the car to my local garage to be fixed. The mechanics said it was not only the power steering belt but the alternator belt and the pumps as well. The problem was taken care of and I picked the car up. Before I pulled out I tried the heat and defrost but they would not work now. The heat and defrost had been acting strange and smelled as if burning was happening. The heat would be hard to turn off at times. The different levels of heat were all the same most time. The mechanics looked at it later and said the car needs a O2 sensor and the whole climate control mechanism. The mechanism on my car had melted wires. I have been noticing a lot of weird electrical quirks outside of thee heat. I have noticed a lot of decay for a car used everyday. The problems that prompted me to look online about these issues are exactly the same issues people are having with this vehicle at the same mileage. O2 sensor, electrical, decay, etc.. anyone who owns this vehicle should have been at least warned by the manufacturer. The problems this vehicle has and parts that should have been recalled or fixed can lead to people getting in fatal crashes. I wonder what the statistics for fatal crashes with these model years are compared to other?

The car started accelerating and then died while driving down the road. Had to exit off the road fast as the car coasted down to prevent other cars from hitting the car. In danger of other cars running over car while our car malfunction. Took car to shop and was told a 2 dollar O-ring on the auto control valve had allowed air leakage and this in turned caused failure of the ECM electron control module. Both auto control valve and ECM needs replacing where the car can be safely driven. The fact of this failure did not bring in the engine service light till after the event and fact it will cost over $2000 dollars to repair a car that is not work much more $3000 are just facts. Nissan needs to at least send out to their customers that owns of this model and make could have this condition than can happen and exist and cause erratic behavior of the car if not check by Nissan. A $2 dollar part causing a $2000 dollar repair.

I checked my oil and transmission fluid about a week and a half after buying the car and right when I shut the hood the check engine light popped on and stayed on obviously very temperamental. About a week later while stopped at a red light the engine felt a little weird then when I started driving right away the car lost power shut down and all the light popped on I had my 2 year old and 3 year old and fiance in the car and the steering wheel locked up and I almost got hit trying to steer it out of traffic into a mcdonald's. called the dealer and he just left us sitting there in the heat. Called the tow truck and I was trying to restart the car but it would turn over but not stay on. So I wait and wait and decide to try starting it like 20 minutes later after looking under the hood and it starts right up as the tow truck is pulling up but he charged me anyway even though I was able to drive it from there to the dealers on my own the dealers mechanic kept trying to diagnose this thing and kept saying oh its fixed now about 4 different times...first he said it was the coil pack, then he said it was the maf mass air flow sensor, then they said bad gas was put in it by them and they cleaned the gas rail, then finally they listened to me and replaced the isc (idle speed control) motor now it started working and not dying on me when I slow down or stop at red lights because they gave it back to me like three times saying it was fixed and it wasn't but now when I'm in the park position with the car running within about 20-30 seconds the RPM drops and the car lights up and dies but at least it starts right back up and drives not like before but this is still a problem. Look on identifix website and you will see that 4 components need to be recalled. The maf, ignition coils, isc, and most expensive of all the ECM which it says is usally damaged once the isc is done for.

Hi, I have a 2000 Nissan Maxima. I am having the same problem from other 2000 Nissan Maxima owners. My car stalls, shakes, hesitates and looses power, it acts like it wants to shut off. The service engine light comes on, the trac off light and the slip light come on all which are said to be caused by defective ignition coils. I have already replaced one and not even 1 month later the car started doing the same thing, meaning I will have to replace all six coils. I believe Nissan has to do a recall because that is a very dangerous thing to be driving and your car to stall out like that. I believe that the owners of the 2000 Nissan Maximas with this problem should be reimbursed for the money we have to pay out to fix a part that Nissan did not build correct.

The contact owns a 2000 Nissan Maxima. The contact stated that when restarting the vehicle, the engine would misfire and the vehicle would shake abnormally. The vehicle would also shake abnormally when driving at various speeds and would sporadically begin to lose power. The dealer performed a diagnosis on the vehicle and determined that the ignition was defective. Most recently, the check engine warning light was illuminated and would not shut off. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 34,000 and the current mileage was 36,000.

Looking on this site there are 115 complaints about this problem. My question is how many people need to report a potential dangerous problem before it gets a recall?

2000 Nissan Maxima's have a serious engine ignition coil defect. -- this defect causes the engine to run rough, stall and abruptly and unexpectedly stop during normal use. The engine warning light was little (if any) value in helping alert the driver to the sudden engine failure. The engine has 6 separate coils. The first coil failed and was replaced by the Nissan dealer. It was not covered by any type of Nissan warranty. Within a 90 day period, two additional coils failed and needed to be replaced. Eventually, all 6 ignition coils ultimately needed to be replaced at a cost of over $900. The dealer stated this was a "very common problem" with this model, and said eventually all of the coils fail with this Nissan year, make and model. He provide the failure code P1320 and Nissan service reference: Ntb01-059. The work was performed by a Nissan dealer in Arizona. This manufactures defect needs to be recalled by NHTSA and Nissan needs to service these units before it results in additional accidents, fire or fatalities.

Awareness needs to be made on the 2000 Nissan Maxima, the car will have a ECU breakdown resulting in the car to shut off at any given time. A trouble code of P0505 will trigger off in the car resulting in an insane repair cost. Numerous cars are affected and Nissan refuses to perform a recall on this car. Its a matter of time before one of these Nissan shuts down at the wrong time resulting in someone's death. There are pages upon pages of posts with this problem.

On March 5, 2008, the idle air control went out on this vehicle. The part was replaced with a genuine part from Nissan. Within 30 days of replacing the part, the electronic motor mount wiring shorted out, which caused the new part to burn, as well as the computer. The car was taken to the Nissan dealership, in which they were aware of this problem and failed to do something about it. I was told that this has happened to several other customers and there is nothing that could be done about it. Everytime this part burns out, it will cost $2000 dollars to replace the part and you will still have problems with the vehicle. I feel the Nissan dealership is concealing a problem that could have been recalled and some resolution to this problem could have been found. The consumers are being deceived by not being informed of this problem before they purchase the 2000 series of Nissan Maxima.

My 2000 Nissan Maxima has been experience problems with the "check engine soon" light. A dealer hooked it up to a computer and indicated a code of P1320 - faulty coil - misfire on cylinder 4. he told me in his experience with 2000 Nissan Maximas he can replace one, but customer will be back because the coils are defective and other will eventually go. I feel since they are defective cylinders, Nissan should recall the parts.

At 57,000 miles a code was pulled from ecup0740 diag. Poss electrical problem (unknown) could not find problem, $152 fee. Returned vehicle several times for engine RPM rev. Vehicle wants to move when at a complete stop. Reset and reprogrammed computer (ECU). I wore breaks out several times, and the E-brake.($1,000) finally the intermittent problem was found repaired (2) O2 sensors $610. Same problem occurs 2 months later. Found bad ECU, core return iacv-aac valve. ($914). Again 3 months later vehicle performing the same way, found and replaced another sensor oh this one was under warranty per Nissan. At this time the vehicle is performing the same way and needs to go back to the dealer for more repairs. I spoke to the service manager at hart Nissan, and he recommends that when you replace one sensor all six should be replaced. I know two people who own the 2000 Maxima and they also had their sensors repaired. I have been a Nissan owner for about 10 years and owned six vehicles myself/wife. I am in the market for another vehicle and I will never purchase other Nissan ever again. This sensor problem needs to be addressed by Nissan. Don't bother calling Nissan customer service because, A-they won't get back to you right away, B-they won't do anything for you besides say your vehicle is out of warranty and what do you want use to do you have 50,000-90,000 miles on your vehicle, things do go wrong. Call the federal trade commission and loge a complaint, call your state M/V department dealers and repairs and have them investigate this sensor problem, and contact your states attorney office. (Nissan is making hundreds of thousands of dollars of this sensor problem that should be a recall).
