My 2000 Nissan Maxima started vibrating really badlly and the check engine light came on. After turning off the car and turning back on the problem went away, but I had it towed to Nissan dealer and they later diagnosied it as a bad igition coil. This happened at 40,000 miles and now at 67000 the same problem is occuring again. I researched the problem on the web and noticed may owners of Nissan have the same problem and it's frustrating that a recall has not been made. It's a safefy hazzard when the coil goes bad while driving. I have no faith in Nissan and looking forward to getting another quality car. It won't be a Nissan!!!!!

As so many before me and I am sure many more to follow.... the ignition coils on my 2000 Maxima SE has failed due to a recognized defective part. So before someone loses power and safety systems fail, this problem needs to be addressed with a recall of all defective ignition coils in Nissan cars and trucks.

My Nissan 2000 has similar problems which others have, ignition coils and oxygen sensor. My car has only 48000 miles on it. All six coil has been replaced by Nissan dealer and it cost me $500. Manufacturer transmission warranty does not cover even though it is part of transmission. Nissan should recall this problem and reimburse consumer money.

Hi, I am a happy owner of a 2000 Nissan Maxima gle. The vehicle has 53,000 miles on it and recently has a problem. The "service engine soon" light on the dashboard just came on recently. I researched this issue on the internet and found out quite a few other Nissan Maxima owners are having this problem... this is what I discoverd... the ignition coils are failing. The parts themselves were free under a "goodwill parts" policy Nissan has. According to the work order, 3 parts numbered 22448-31U01 "coil assy-ignit" and 3 parts numbered 22448-31U06 were replaced. Many Maxima owners have heard the response from Nissan dealers that this is a known problem with the vehicle ignition coils. They also received the response that Nissan agreed to a no charge replacement under good will. See car forums at www.carsforums.com/showthread.php?T=7803 question & request: ------------------- can Nissan please provide the details of how I go about getting this problem resolved under "goodwill" and have the ignition coils replaced to resolve the "service engine soon" light. In October 2004, on the first cool day of the fall season in houston, Texas, my 2000 Nissan Maxima gle began to misfire, but the problem corrected itself after a few miles of driving. A month later, on another cool day in November, the problem recurred. This time, the event illuminated the service engine soon lamp. The vehicle has continued to misfire intermittently (but frequently) ever since. When I took the vehicle to my local Nissan dealer for diagnosis, the service adviser pulled two trouble codes (P0306 and P1320) and told me the faults indicated replacement of all six ignition coils (per recommendation of tsb no. 01-059). The dealer wants $75 for each coil, and approximately $200 in labor to install them. Upon further research, I discovered the prevalence of the problem with other '00-'01 Maxima owners. I have owned and maintained my vehicle since it had 4000 miles on the odometer, and this is the first major problem that it has experienced in 72,000 miles.

I own a 2000 Nissan Maxima SE with 49,000 miles that has been well maintained and cared for. A week ago my "service engine soon" light came on, which was just 3 weeks after having my car serviced for a 45,000 tune up and a drive train leak repaired. I researched the source of a "service engine soon" light on the internet and found lots of information about a common problem in the make, model and approximate model of my car. Trouble with the six ignition coils was sited by many owners and detailed in the service bulletin ntbo1059. Repair of the problem seemed to depend on the number of coils replaced but typically cost $700. I took my car to a Nissan dealership where they did a diagnostic test and told me that my car had experienced multiple misfires and that I needed to replace all 6 coils! the technician explained that the design of the current coils allows them to get overheated and burn out. It cost me $700 to replace all six and I absolutely will never purchase another Nissan. Up until this point, me and my family had been devoted purchasers of Nissan cars. Never again.

I have a 2000 Nissan Maxima that I have spend almost $1000 to have repaired recently. The check engine light came on about a month ago and it was flashing. Took it in and one of the ignition coils was bad, throttle body needed repair, rail system needed repair, spark plugs replaced also. The car only has 44,000 miles on it and is pretty well maintained. It ended up costing me $500 for those repairs. This past weekend the check engine light came on again and I took it to Nissan this morning. This time it is the 02 sensor - something to do with the oxygen intake. Not really sure what this is but is costing me another $300!! I was told that if I did not get this fixed that I would ruin the new spark plugs and would use more gas that necessary. The dealer told me this morning that it is very unusual to see these types of problems so soon. Nissan needs to get their act together!! I really like my Maxima and even considered getting the new one - which look nice. But not anymore.

I have 2000 Nissan Maxima SE, current mileage 51000. I kept my Maxima well maintained with regular service and premium oil but got service engine light on recently. After checking found out that all the 6 ignition coils need to replaced. That cost me $650. I checked with dealer and found out this is happening to other 2000 Maxima too. Looks like this defect is for particular type of engine they had in 2000 Maxima. I would like Nissan to take action and recall those Maxima.

I have a 2000 Maxima with now over 100,000 miles on it. When I was way under that I had misfiring problems which turned out to be the coils. All 6 were replaced. Not even a week later they were replaced again. I am now at 119,000 miles and my car is sputtering and stalling upon starting up. I have read the same problem with somone else and they had to replace their coils. My car is no longer under waranty. So I hope dearly that it's not the coils again. Which I'm sure it is. Nissan needed to have recalled this car a long time ago. It is simply rediculous that the consumer should have to pay for Nissan's mistakes. If Nissan will not fix my car if it is the coils this time I will never buy another Nissan again and I currently have 2 of them.

My 2000 Maxima (42,000 miles) now requires a complete replacement of all 6 ignition coils at a cost of over $600. This came as a huge shock to me for a so called bullet proof car. I have read numerous other instances (online and on this site as well as a few mechanics) of this occurring to fairly new Maximas. I would like to file a formal complaint.

I drive a well maintained 2000 Nissan Maxima SE that is regularly serviced by the dealer. I brought the car into the dealer at 59,600 miles due to difficulty starting the vehicle, and a "sputtering" and stalling issue. Their diagnosis was to replace all 6 ignition coils - because 1 was likely bad, they couldn't tell which one, and that once one goes the others follow suit. This cost me $800. Upon reviewing my records after the repair, I found that they had previously replaced the same 6 ignition coils at 30,000 miles in responce to a "check engine" light that had come on. Ignition coils typically last the lifetime of a car, and all of mine have been replaced twice on a well maintained vehicle that is under 60,000 miles. I believe this is a manufacturers defect and should be recalled. On Thursday September 16, 2004 I took my car to a certifed Nissan delearship service department for the third time in less than two years to correct a problem with my ignition coils. There seems to be no service department in greenville South Carolina that can say why the coils are going bad. I found out there my invesitgation on carstates.com that over 250 people who owns 2000 Nissan Maximas and have had problems with their ignition coils. I would never buy another Nissan or anything related to Nissan. I have saved all of the old parts that were taken off of my car. When I notifed Nissan corporation of my complaint in 2003 they said that no one complained of this issue. I was upset and I thought that I had the only Nissan with this problem. I would just like to find all of those people with the 2000 Maximas and pool together to sue Nissan corporation. When these coils go bad, it is very unsave and it will eventually cause a death because your car will completely stop in the middle of driving, especially when it is cold outside.

This is a complaint on the Nissan company manufactures and dealerships. They have manufactured cars (Maxima 2000) which have faulty iginition coils (6). They are very much aware of this issue, and have done nothing about making this a recall. There are thousands of people calling about this issue and being told "you're out of luck". the price for the correction and replacement of the ignition coils starts at $800. And there is no way to single out which coil is in need of replacement, and if you are lucky and can single it out, 2 months later another one will go out. So in the end you find it cheaper to get all 6 removed. This is a burden on Maxima 2000 owners all over the country. There are petitions all over and online asking to start a recall.
