With my 1999 Nissan Maxima SE V6, egr valve related issues were detected and engine light started to come up soon after the ignition. According to Nissan dealer, oxygen sensors and egr valves work is need that would cost $1800 or more. At that time the car mileage was around 80,000. I could not afford to fix that. But later one of the rod in the engine broken, fire started under the engine while I was driving at 70 M/H on the highway. My family was in a great danger and we were lucky to survive with the help of police and fire engine when someone called 911. There has been another complain about egr value on NHTSA web site by another Nissan Maxima owner.

Car began idling very rough when stopped, almost to the point of shaking back and forth. When attempting to accelerate, car seemed like it had almost no power. Same thing happened when climbing hills, to the point where car would almost stop and put driver in danger of being struck from behind by traffic in the same lane. Had to stop driving car and bring to dealer.

: the contact stated the air bag light illuminated intermittently. The dealership determined the entire air bag system needed to be replaced. Updated 5/30/2006 - the brakes made noise in the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle pulled to the right. The check engine light illuminated. The tcs light illuminated. The A/C didn't seem cold enough to the consumer.

: the contact stated the check engine light illuminated intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the local dealership when the light illuminated. The dealership was not able to duplicate the problem; however, they did reset the check engine light. The vehicle was inspected by the dealer, and they suggested changing the ignition switch.

I need to replace the following for my 99 Nissan Maxima so far:- (1) 2 oxygen sensors. (2) 1 engine control module (3) 6 ignition coils and 1 condenser now, the traction control system is not working. My Maxima has only 52,000 miles. All these repairs right after 36,000 miles. Nissan should recall all these. However, I know NHTSA won't recall it because there is no injuries. Thank you very much.

Check engine light first came on 4 month ago. Changed O2 sensor. A month later it came on again. Another O2 sensor. 2 weeks ago it came back again. This time it is a bad ignition coil. The car has only 44K. They should have a recall.
