February 2023, I purchased a new 2023 Kicks SV with only 9 miles on it. There were 3 gray vehicles on the lot parked side by side viewable from the road. I loved the gray color with black trim and black wheels. A customer brought his gray Kicks in to trade for a Rogue according to salesman. It was identical to the other vehicles, so I was curious as to why he was trading it in. I inquired and the salesman stated he needed a larger vehicle and asked if I wanted to buy it. I stated no, I want a new one.
Within four weeks, 2 warning messages with symbols appeared on the left side of the dashboard. They would go away and then return. It wasn't happening daily, but sporadically and never stayed on all day, but over time they did. The problem actually became worse. FIRST MESSAGE "Warning Malfunction See Owner's Manual," as well as a Master Warning Symbol and a "Rear Automatic Brake Symbol." within a yellow rectangle. SECOND MESSAGE "Warning Parking Sensor Error See Owner's Manual," and Master Warning Symbol within a yellow rectangle. Each time I start my vehicle, there is a loud beep followed by the messages. One message appears followed by the second one. Very, very annoying. Rear sensors no longer give warning of impending obstruction. Absolutely no sound at all when backing up.
A restaurant employee told me her mother purchased a Kicks identical to mine. I asked if she had any problems with her sensors. She stated yes, and her horn also. She stated her mother have been trying to get the problem resolved at the dealership but haven't yet. I began putting pieces together. Same model, same color, same problems, one trade-in and same town. Something happened to these vehicles before they reached the dealership. Several visits to two dealerships, no resolution. Service never mentions repair. They only mention diagnostic testing. Service attempts to use rodent damage as cause of problems and charge customers rather than utilizing their warranty.
Settings menu options on my dashboard fade in and out becoming disabled while driving. I believe there is evidence of defective electrical wiring. I was curious and used my phone camera and hand mirror to look inside my vehicle above the brake and accelerator area since two locations used the same rhetoric concerning rodent damaging wires and stated if damaged, Nissan would not cover service expense. I have never seen so many bundles of wires of various colors that appear to be protruding from components as if assembly wasn't completed properly. I noticed black tape was used by both dealerships service technicians wrapping wires inside and within the rear bumper where wires are connected to individual sensors. The carpet inside the vehicle opposite of rear bumper is designed with a flap for access to the outer right and outer left wires leading to the sensor connections. The connection isn't visible, but some of the wires are and have the appearance of gray wires lying flat inside the bumper. One service location technician raised the outer wires upward on the right side and wrapped black tape around them. The other location technician did the same on the left side. I do not know if they wrapped black tape around the inner two sensor wires. Neither invoice mentioned technician wrapped wires with black tape and repositioned them.
People, please report problems you are experiencing with your vehicle no matter what make or model you own. Please research so you will have the ability to discern truth from a lie. I asked a service manager questions and he refused to answer them. I asked if the technician servicing my vehicle performed a sonar self-diagnostic test. Service manager stated there was no sonar self-diagnostic test. I removed a Nissan Service Bulletin from among information I brought with me. I hope this information is helpful to someone.
