blown transmission

Hi Nissan Juke Acenta 1.6L CVT 2012

The car was ordered on the 05/03/2012 and delivered on the 23/03/2012. The vehicle is located on the Island of Lesvos and has only 34500 km on the clock about 8500 km per annum.

On the 21/08/2016 out of the blue and as i was driving developed a very loud rumbling noise as if i was dragging a tree under the car. I stopped to check and all appeared to be clean. I opened the hood and heard what could only be described and a rattling noise of several pots and pans jingling with each other in the engine.

During the driving the revs would increase and drop dramatically. The next day we took it to the authorized dealer were we had purchased the vehicle and serviced it at all intervals only to discover on site that it wouldn't accept the reverse gear.

After the engineers opened it they discovered a failed automatic transmission CVT and said it needed replacement. They estimated that the cost would be 7000.00 Euros. Thankfully the vehicle had extended warranty and they have agreed to repair the vehicle under the warranty.

However i am extremely disappointed in this having happened for a vehicle that is practically new. One owner, only 35k. I could only assume that it was an factory error or faulty to begin with.

The engineer told us that it was pretty much our fault for not allowing the car to warm up as if he was present at all times and living in the engine. He also advised me that on a steep hill or even when the car has more than 2 people to start it in LOW gear opposed to DRIVE, something i consider ridiculous.

Following further research i discovered that European Nissan Jukes built during 2011 - 2013 had an issue with the timing chain however no official recall was ever made other than voluntary repairs. I am wondering whether one has something to do with the other.

Over all i am extremely disappointed that this has happened to practically a new car. I am actually considering once repaired to sell the vehicle as once the extended warranty expires i have no trust in keeping it any longer.

Any advice ?

Juke TI 1.6L

  • CVT transmission
  • 20,567 miles

About 4 weeks ago, I noticed it was unusual when I was slowing down at the traffic as the bumped a couple of times. I took it to a garage the the technician had test drive. He thought it not a big problem as when he speed up, he couldn't feel anything wrong. The following day when I was reversing the car out of our garage, it was shaking badly.

I called Nissan service centre, they asked to send the car there to have check. I called the towing truck and dropped the car on 19/09/16. After a couple of days I was told the Gear box need a replacement and quoted NZ$10215 (equals US$7193). I felt completely shocked. We bought the car NZ new in February 2016 the mileage is only 33100 km The Nissan service centre talked with the Nissan dealer and they agree to contribute NZ$3897. I searched that Nissan Juke 2012 has the factory warranty of transmission: 3 years and 60000 km. It's only 33100 I think Nissan should pay the whole cost NZ$10215, which is the part only. I think Nissan company needs to do something on their product CVT. I felt extremely disappointed.

Hopefully through this platform, I can get support from someone or Nissan company.

Juke ES 1.6L

  • CVT transmission
  • 50,952 miles

I bought my first Nissan juke on August 2013, however, the trader bought it on November 2012, today I have done 82,000 KM.My warranty has ended after three year ( from November 2015). I have done all of my services at a certified Nissan service center.

5000KM 10000KM 15000KM 20000KM 25000KM 35000KM (includes the 30000KM) 45000KM (includes the 40000KM) 55000KM (includes the 50000KM) 65000KM (includes the 60000KM) 75000KM (includes the 70000KM)

before I do my 85000KM service, I had a CVT failure: My L & D does not clutch, the engine works mechanically and electrically but the car does not move forward, it only works on the R. Before this happening I had no issues with acceleration or anything, I think there is no mechanical issues. I called the service center and they asked me to bring the car on a wench car to inspect it. after three days of inspection the service center advised to change the complete transmission which cost approx. 25% of the car price. The service center refused to provide me a report, and they don't know what could be the reason for this to happen. I have asked the service manager to send Nissan for a goodwill support since I have been promoting and using my car with confidence, maintaining it at the right times with all of the recommendations.

Honestly I don't see a reason why should I lose my transmission suddenly? and if this is an issue with the Nissan CVTs.

My car is at the service center since a week now already, what is your best recommendation to my case, what should I do? , who should I speak with? what should I provide? what is your best advise?

Juke

  • CVT transmission
  • 21,748 miles

Dear sir,

Let me start by saying the I was a great fan of Nissan and thus I was one of the first owners of Qashqai (manual) in Egypt and also Juke (automatic). I purchased both immediately as soon as they were released in the Egyptian market; 2011 and 2012. Furthermore, I promoted both due to my social position and center of influence circles in government and business medium and convinced at least 25 of my close friends to purchased them. My Qashqai runs fine so far, but my Juke???

I finished the scheduled maintenance of 35,000 KM at the authorized dealer in Darrasa, Cairo, (United Group) on 6 November 2013 and on the next day I was traveling from Cairo to Sharm Elsheikh when suddenly the transmission malfunctioned after driving about 250 KM in the middle of the desert as sun was setting. I immediately stopped and called Nissan for the rescue. I explained that I had an emergency with my wife and 4 toddlers in the middle of nowhere in an unsecured area. I asked for an advice on what to do, but I was informed that everyone is gone and they are off Friday and Saturday,  please call us back Sunday. I pleaded for help for the safety of my family, especially that I purchased a brand new vehicle about a year ago with only 35,000 KM and last scheduled maintenance a day ago, this should not be happening,  but no since of urgency in response.

I enlisted the help of a friend to send me a vehicle to transport us to the nearest safe area and a tow truck to take the vehicle back to Cairo Nissan, Abu Rawash (Modern Motors), which was arrived there the next day at a charge of about 1,800 LE. After a week of no confirmed answer, I booked a flight to Cairo and visited the dealership where I was told that this never happened before and that I may have to bear the cost. Only when I discovered that a friend also had the same issue, and another customer had his Juke at the same time there for transmission malfunction,  I was told. OK, we have approval to replace under warranty.

Honestly,  I was totally disappointed with the misleading information, especially from Nissan. I informed the representative that I normally would insist that Nissan recalls the car and replace it as I would not feel my family would be safe in it and I won't be satisfied owning it with a replaced transmission. Furthermore, I was told that they will order the transmission and may take up to 2 to 3 months for me to get it back and they won't reimburse me for that time or provide a loaner car.

I am sending you all this to inform you of my complete dissatisfaction of the quality of the product as well as the inappropriate level of customer service and since of urgency, which may directly and immediately affect the Nissan brand and sales in the near future in Egypt, UK, USA, and the GCC region should this issue go unresolved soon. For now the vehicle is still at the Modern Motors Nissan location and I would not be effecting an action for now.
