Told by the dealer that the radiator had to be replaced along with the 2 thermostats, cost was $1300.00, but it didn't solve the problem - in order to have heat, i must be driving at 25 mph or faster, and if I stop at a light the heat turns cold. WTF Nissan - I love my truck and it has been great - except this one issue which has never been solved.

I bought my 2014 Frontier LS brand new. Took delivery on July 19, 2014. Truck has operated perfectly - until last fall when it got cold and I wanted the heater to work as it has for the past 3 1/2 years. The heater heated the cabin initially, but after awhile it then began to blow cold air - even at 85-86 degree setting. I took my truck to the dealership where I bought it 2 weeks after I first noticed the problem on Oct.17, 2017. The service tech said the problem stemmed from a dirty cabin air filter. He replaced it. Cost: $79.20. Did NOT fix the problem.

I took the truck back on January 2, 2018. Tech thought it was possibly an air lock, so they flushed the cooling system. Cost: $114.35. Did NOT fix the problem.

After researching my truck's issue on the internet, I discovered that Frontiers have exhibited this problem going back as far as 2005 with MANY complaints, but Nissan does not appear to be addressing this issue.

I plan on taking my vehicle back to see what the next step (hit to my wallet) will be. This vehicle is still under warranty, so I am going to find out how willing the dealership is to fix my problem as a warranty issue.

Frontier SV 4.0L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 1,800 miles

While the dealer and service dept have been helpful, my truck has been in the shop 5 times with less than 2400 miles on it. First was part of the Value package wasn't installed upon delivery, then the XM headset failed, next was the AC issue and no tension in the parking brake. Now the the heater doesn't work properly! Winter is coming, and I can't even defrost my windshield.

I bought this truck because I wanted a smaller truck ( had F150 before, and have had a 2005 Frontier Prior to that) that my wife would be comfortable driving and parking. My prior Nissan Frontier was a good vehicle w/ only minor problems. The local dealer where I lived at the time sucked though, so I went with the Ford. That was a great truck that I regret selling.

If Nissan can't sort this out, I'll be going with a used F150 or a Tacoma (maybe)
