Nissan: In very rare circumstances, a clog could develop in the EVAP tube located between the fuel tank and the evaporation emission canister. The emission warranty coverage for this EVAP tube has been enhanced to 15 years or 150,000 miles, whichever occurs first, if the tube is found to be clogged.

Please NOTE: repairs related to the evaporation emission canister, check valve, or other components of the emission system are NOT covered by this Warranty Policy Enhancement. If you are having consistent, repeated difficulties filling up your vehicle with gasoline using different stations and pumps, it MAY be an indication of a clogged EVAP tube. If you consistently experience this symptom, your Nissan technician should be able to accurately diagnose the issue.

I received this notice last week after my truck has been setting unused for over a year because it spits gas out when you try to fill the tank and it will not pass inspection. I received the notice for my 2007 Xterra but I recognized the problem immediately because it affects my 2008 Frontier, which I bought at a Nissan dealer but for which I have not received a notice. I immediately called in for an appointment. They replaced the tube but the clogging apparently causes a software issue to arise that ultimately causes other EVAP system components to malfunction.

The price I was quoted to repair this issue after they told me the Frontier tube was clogged was $1573.00! That's right, you take it in for the extended warranty work (replacing 2 little tubes according to the dealer) which they charge to Nissan (about $270) and then they tell you it will cost nearly $1600 to repair the real problem, the one that was caused by the clogged tube - replacement of the entire system. This is how they "address" the issue without incurring the expense of doing the right thing. They don't want to have to deal with potentially 11 million vehicles that have this design flaw.
