CarComplaints.com Notes: For years, Nissan trucks and SUVs have had problems with coolant destroying the transmission. And for years, Nissan has done nothing about it.
The 2007 is no different than the 2006 and 2005. Just avoid it.

4.0L V-6 4x4 MT 99K+ mi. 1 owner, regular periodic maintenance from new. I've been a little excessive with short interval fluid changes. 3k mi oil/filter and 40k front/rear diff, transmission, transfer case, 1yr brake/clutch/coolant.
The problem 1) Whining noise (like a supercharger) began around 30K mi, growing louder up to approx 60K mi, no change until 90K mi. My understanding from internet, etc was that Nissan's fix involved replacing primary timing chain tension-er slide/shoe, thing the chain runs against. I elected to replace these myself, and chose to replace the secondary chains and tensioners at the same time. 2) The primary timing chain tension-er and upper run (hard black plastic) showed little wear. The chain guide located near the water pump (translucent yellowish plastic) showed moderate wear. The secondary (exh. and int. camshafts) tensioners were both worn completely through (yellowish translucent plastic) to the actual tensioner itself. Also, both secondary chains had stretched significantly. 3) I replaced both secondary chains/tensioners, primary chain/tensioner/guide/upper guide thing/crank seal. Cost of parts from the dealership was around $700 for all three tensioners, all three chains, all three primary chain guide/run/shoe thingies, OEM water pump, OEM sealant, a zillion O-rings, and other stuff like OEM coolant. Cut the corners you choose. This took a lazy 3 days including long breaks and cleaning the garage afterwords. 4) My conclusions: The yellowish plastic is softer than the black. The noise was from the secondary chains running directly on the metal plungers of the secondary tensioners; The factory "fix" wouldn't have actually addressed the issue I was having, as I understand the fix; Anyone that can afford the parts and downtime can perform this repair if they're mechanically inclined and have advice/factory manual/common hand tools available.
Absolutely no other issues whatsoever.
