Our truck overheated on 10/17/13. The garage informed us the internal radiator had busted and had leaked antifreeze into the transmission and transmission fluid into the radiator. According to the mechanic it had been this way for awhile. There was nothing to indicate there was a problem this major. Nissan could not explain how this could have happened nor why only that if we give them 2500 they will replace the radiator and the transmission. This radiator and transmission are both factory installed. I think this is a definite safety issue as this will cause the engine to overheat and the transmission to go out and leave you stranded. This is a very costly repair that most people cannot undertake. So far we have paid $300 for a "band-aid" fix until we can find a way to resolve this issue. This is a definite problem with the Frontier 4.0L and it's only fair to say there is something wrong with the factory radiators.

Diagnosed as a failed transmission cooler which allows coolant to mix with the transmission fluid, causing internal damage to the components. There was no warning prior to this catastrophic event - it just all of a sudden happened. The entire transmission and radiator had to be replaced at a cost of $7,000 - Nissan did not cover $3,000 of this as they said it was a "deductible" - how can you have a deductible on a design flaw?

The engine overheated. When I lifted the hood I noticed a cream colored substance coming out of coolant reservoir. Had the truck towed to Nissan dealer. After diagnosis was told the transmission fluid and the coolant fluid got mixed together. Apparently this has happen before on 2007 Nissan Frontier engines. Dealer said I needed to have the transmission and the radiator replaced at a cost of $7,000 of which they told me Nissan would pay $4,000. My complaint is that Nissan knew this was a problem with apparently no way to keep it from happening. I feel Nissan should be responsible for the total bill.

Never had any power train problems with this truck since I bought it. All of a sudden, I stopped at a red light, when the light changed to green and I pressed the accelerator, the RPM rose but the truck had no acceleration. I took had the truck towed to a mechanic who was able to diagnose the problem as the radiator had leaked into the transmission. It seems from reading the complaints that Nissan is well known for this problem! why has nothing been done? I contacted Nissan who told me the warranty has expired and no assistance is available.

The transmission started to jump/slip at approx 35 mph.(81800 two weeks later it happened again, now occurring daily (82300). I've read reports of radiator fluid mixing with tran. Fluid causing the problem. I expect a trans.failure soon. Nissan supposedly has been aware of this for years. Increased warranty to 100,000mi. But charging consumers a $3000 deductible. I have been laid off from work....I can't afford to spend $3000 on a problem that Nissan is running from. It is unfair for the consumer to cough up this kind of cash while Nissan continues to ignore the problem and not admit fault.

Just went and started the truck. When you put it in drive and press the gas it does not move readily, it slowly moves even though I am pressing hard on the gas. You can see the RPM going up but the truck barely moving. The truck has no issues in reverse. This happened with no issues no warning just like that it is sad Nissan needs to do something about this. I see too many cases on the web with this now known issue.

I was driving when my vehicle suddenly lost speed and would not accelerate when I pressed the gas. It eventually stopped, and would not start back. The following day, I had it towed to a reputable repair shop, where I was told that I needed a new transmission and a new radiator, which would cost me more than $6000. They explained that there was a crack in the radiator, that caused the transmission fluid to mix with the coolant. This fluid mixture ruined both the transmission and the radiator. Believing this was an absurd occurrence, I looked online, and learnt this was a common defect for Nissan xterra, Frontier and pathfinders from 2005-2010. I called the Nissan toll free number and explained my situation. I was given a case number - 11982851 - and was told I needed to get the vehicle diagnosed at a Nissan dealer. I paid a second towing fee and got the vehicle to the nearest Nissan dealer, where the diagnosis was confirmed. I called back the Nissan toll free number, and was told that because my vehicle was over 100 K miles, they would do nothing to help me. I asked to talk to a supervisor, and was told none was available, but one would call me within 4-8 hours. That time has expired, and I have called back three times, but still have not been able to talk to a supervisor. Frustrating to have bought a Nissan vehicle right off the freight truck, brand new, and having to change out the transmission so soon, especially knowing the manufacturers were aware of the defect. Also, I was not given any warning, and was just driving along, and had a failure that could have caused a serious accident.

Radiator crack caused transmission failure we have 81,000 miles on the truck so they want us to have to pay 2500+ dollars for a 6 year old truck for which we had a 100,000 mile warranty/72 month warranty and on which we paid hundreds of dollars for every major mileage inspection and service. Nothing was done to tell us or warn us of this. People will also lose resale value because no one will want to buy the vehicles. We should be compensated for the repairs and the loss of resale potential.

The failure mileage was 75,569...updated 09/30/13 the consumer stated there was an engine whine (noise) at all speeds. There maybe a failure with the timing chain. While driving my 2007 Nissan Frontier I noticed a heavy grinding noise occurring at 40 mph. The transmission was slipping before shifting into overdrive. I took my truck to two different certified mechanics to find out that I needed a new transmission and radiator. The radiator coolant leaked into the transmission causing contamination of the transmission fluid resulting in failure of the transmission. I purchased this truck new from a Nissan dealership and planned to drive this truck beyond its current mileage. After researching this online and reading all the complaints I will never buy another Nissan. The cost to get this fixed is $4700 for a new transmission and radiator. This cost is absolutely ridiculous because the price of all the rebuilt transmissions out there for the Frontier have escalated due to the demand on them. Nissan should have put a recall on all their vehicles with this problem and all this could have been avoided. Nissan lost a loyal customer and if there is a class action lawsuit in Maryland I would like to know. Nissan should pay for this.....totally ridiculous and a time consuming expensive nightmare.

My transmission failed due to radiator coolant mixing with my transmission fluid. Nissan knew about the factory defect but failed to notify the consumers or replace the transmissions. Nissan was involved in a class action lawsuit and increased the transmission warranty to 10 years or 100K miles. But they required the customer to provide a co-pay of $3000 (which is ridiculous). However I noticed symptoms of my truck shuttering and thumping into gear around 95,000 miles, my vehicle had appx110,000 miles on it when the Nissan dealership officially diagnosed the problem. Furthermore, mileage should not matter because this is a "factory defect". I bought my Nissan Frontier new in 2007 and it was only a matter of time before the transmission failed due to the "factory defect". please inform me if there is any recourse/recall for this situation. I took my vehicle in to have the transmission fluid changed and was told that the transmission had anti-freeze contamination and could result in sudden catastrophic failure of the transmission, and that Nissan was aware of this but would take no action to repair or recall the vehicle. If this is a know manufacture defect and is resulting in catastrophic failure with potential crash, and injury potential, why aren't the vehicles being recalled and repaired?

The car was brought in for fluid changes since the car was nearly at the 100,000 mile mark. They explained the radiator had failed and caused the transmission to be contaminated. This car was brought in several times over the years and they never disclosed that this known problem can ruin a transmission. I paid $3000 to have the car fixed because I was in the 80-100,000 K mile range. This class action settlement is a bad deal for Nissan consumers. We should have been notified that that this could happen. I would have gladly paid $600 to have the radiator replaced. Its a good thing this happened while at the dealership. I understand that many people have been stranded. Nissan knows this and fails to tell its customers. This is unsafe, and I think it should be a full recall.

I was driving my truck on a two lane road at approximately 40 mph when the truck started to shake and shutter and would not shift properly. I was almost rear ended on a bend in the road because of the reduced speed I had to drive to keep the truck from shaking. I have researched my Nissan Frontier's transmission issue and it appears to be a cross contamination issue where the transmission cooler leaks allowing transmission fluid and radiator coolant to mix causing damage to the transmission. I have not driven the truck since the incident for fear of a total transmission failure which has happend to other Nissan Frontier owners causing them to be standed on the roadway. Nissan seems to not want to recall the trucks for the cross contamination issue which I feel puts peoples lives in danger.

I parked my truck and later tried to start it and it wouldn't. had it towed to one repair shop ($45 plus $75 to the repair shop) and they referred me to a transmission mechanic. So I had it towed there ($45) and he said that radiator fluid had leaked into the transmission. I've had the truck about 2 weeks before this happened. The estimate on repairs is $3,500. Watch and see what god makes happen!
