CarComplaints.com Notes: Radiators are still cracking, leaking coolant and destroying transmissions. Which is a shame when you consider that otherwise, this would be a great small pickup truck.

Frontier LX 4.0L

Nissan has known about this problem since 2004 that was two full years before my vehicle was even manf. They will not stand up for their poor quality. I,. do not under stand why they are not forced to treat the customers with respect and loyalty they seem to want the customers loyalty. After all, I still receive emails trying to sell me a new car.

Frontier SE V6

  • Manual transmission
  • 80,000 miles

My problems started with a soft whine in the engine. I took it to the dealer and they did not know what the problem was. Nissan issued a Technical Service Bulletin in April 2009 and a second Technical Service Bulletin in November 2009. The problem was a defective part in the timing chain / tensioner position er assembly. Borg Warner created a new part in November 2009. Nissan is rejecting my claim because my truck was out of warranty when I have the repairs made. I contend that the truck was in warranty when the problem started in May 2009. Nissan knew there was a problem, but did nothing to tell the owners. I am out of $1,800 dollars for the repairs.

In November of 2009 the IPDM went out in my less than 4 year old truck....In December I'm told that the catalytic converter filters have shattered, without explanation as to why...After having them replaced by an independent and very reputable mechanic in town for about 1/3 of the price that Nissan quoted me...the extent of the engine damage is such that the engine needs to be replaced...Because the emissions warranty is only good for 8 years or 80,000 miles...and my truck is at 86,000 miles, Nissan, at this time has declined to cover this....due to the mileage....

This was the 2nd of 3 Nissan vehicles my husband and I have purchased from Leblanc Nissan in Gonzales, LA...In speaking with emission experts at various muffler places...I'm told that when a computer component goes bad in a Nissan, it can cause a miss-fire...which means it fails to adjust the air/fuel mixture allowing too rich of a mixture to flow into the system which then damages the converter filters...ONE MORE FOOTNOTE CONCERNING THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER FILTERS: The Garage that replaced my converters has stated that in spite of the earlier problem with the IPDM....for the converter filters to be shattered means they were defective anyway....THERES NO DOUBT ABOUT IT!
