The contact owns a 2000 Nissan Frontier. The contact stated that the vehicle was turned off in the neutral position so that it could be pushed. However, when the vehicle was pushed forward, it started to move forward at a rapid pace so the driver got into the vehicle and depressed the brake pedal; unfortunately, the vehicle did not slow down but instead moved down a hill and crashed into a tree. The vehicle was taken to the dealership for a diagnostic test and repairs which included body work, windshield and exterior lighting. The failure mileage was 15,546. The current mileage was approximately 40,000.

The rubber pad that activates the brake light switch crumbled and fell apart leaving the brake lights continually on with no indication inside the vehicle that an unsafe condition existed. Since the brake lights were continually on drivers to the rear would not have had notification that I was stopping which could have resulted in a severe rear end collision.

The contact owns a 2000 Nissan Frontier. In may of 2003, the contact noticed that the undercarriage of the vehicle was corroded. She attempted to apply the emergency brake and it locked. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they replaced the emergency brake line and the muffler. In 2006, the dealer replaced the caliper, rotors, and the brake line for a second time. In November of 2007, the dealer replaced the gas tank due to corrosion. In November of 2008, the vehicle was diagnosed with major corrosion to all undercarriage compartments that were previously replaced. The vehicle will not be repaired. A report was filed with the manufacturer and they stated that the vehicle was not under a recall. They further stated that salt may be the cause of the failure. The failure mileage was 30,000 and current mileage was 72,000. Updated 12/16/08 the fuel tank sensor was replaced twice. The inside tail/brake light fall out of their sockets due to rust in the mechanisms. Updated 12/19/08.
