pretty bad
steering problem
They all know what's going on and they say it's $1000 to fix and they think it;s a joke and say that you should of bought something else. It is a pain. They need to do something about this. Does anyone know how to bypass this? Thanks

Second time this part has failed. Luckily the first time the vehicle was under the manufacturer warranty. Less than 40k miles later it has failed again. Based on what I am reading (and told by directly by representatives of NIssan), Nissan is well aware of this issue and has knowledge that this part is prone to fail.

Parked my car at hospital for medical procedure, returned to my car, not starting. Walked a couple of miles to get new battery in key, which I had replaced within the year, No luck. Towed car after four hour wait to discover ESCL had failed. If it was a 2009 it would be covered. My car has less than 26,000 miles on it and now needs an $850 fix, after a towing bill.
Escalated the matter at Nissan, unknown outcome. Wasted an entire day and am grateful I did not turn the car off in the middle of nowhere in 110 degree heat. This is a dangerous problem for a gentle used vehicle. And it should not be a mysterious problem as they have also replaced the ESCL system in 2009 models.

My cube died!! CANNOT START ENGINE. Called the service department and paid $79 to towed to it.
After a few hours of the inspection. They told me the some kind of steering wheel lock fuilure which I didn't know what is it. It has to be replace for CAD$1020 after tax.
Sadly in two weeks ago, I just had my cube fixed for the transmission oil leak.
Update from Feb 28, 2014: The Nissan dealership offered to reduce the price to replace the Electronic Steering Column lock to $875. Afterwards I called Nissan Canada customer service line to request a reimbursement of the $875. Dave Robitaille, the customer service supervisor refused and said our warranty expired 6 months ago and denied our claim. We told Dave that this was not an isolated incident. Nissan has a long history of faulty ESCL (IE: Nissan Altima and 2009 Nissan Cube). he says he will not do anything unless there is a mass complaint and only if there is a recall for the 2010 Nissan Cube.
I do not recommend buying anything made from Nissan as their product is only good for three years.

This is the second time the Electronic Steering column lock has gone in my 2010 Cube. The 2009 Cube has a recall on it for this exact problem. When I contacted Nissan about it I was told that Nissan recalled the 2009 due to a manufacturing defect with the electronic Steering column but has not for the 2010. I asked how to go about getting Nissan to recognize this is still as issue in the 2010's and was told I can't.
Each time has been well over $800.00 to fix. I googled it and saw there are many more complaints about it.
I started a petition on it.
