Have 2 Nissans. The 2004 Armada developed the paint problem about 1 1/2 years ago. Nissan won't fix it. The 2010 Altima began to show the same pattern of paint problems about 6 weeks ago. The paint on the roof area above the windshield is fading. The rest of the body looks like water spots, but cannot clean it off. Have been told by others that the clear coat is dissolving. Have recently noticed the rubber trim is turning white and the windows have "water spots" on them also. Was told by Nissan dealer today that they won't fix it because the car is more than 3 years old. Called corporate today and registered a complaint. The clerk there told me they were passing this on to the regional director who will call me tomorrow. I'm not holding my breath. The Armada, by the way, now has some rust spots. Will make another report.
Update from Apr 27, 2015: Have had the roof and the hood of the car painted at my expense at a body shop. Nissan has been of no help whatever. They are claiming the cause appears to be environmental!!! Like all the other cars I've ever owned have lived in the same environment and not developed paint problems. The body shop said that the clear coat is delaminating and is caused either by the improper application of the undercoat, color and clear coat or due to poor quality paint/clear coat.
Update from Jul 1, 2015: The cause of this is called delamination of the clear coat and is due to either the improper application of the paint and clear coat or the use of poor quality paint products. We had the bad portions of the car repainted by our local body shop and they guarantee their work for life. Nissan warranties their paint job for 3 years. Nissan takes no responsibility, states the cause is "environmental" and that we didn't have the car serviced at a dealer!!! We have a 2004 Armada which had the same problem. We are now starting to see chipping of the paint on the front bumper. If I don't get rid of the car soon I will have to pay to have the rest of the car painted. Have observed the delamination problem on Honda and Mazda also.
