I have a 2014 Nissan Altima S. Took it into my local dealer to have the lose noise under the front end checked out. Well after being there for about 2 hours I am told that they are going to have to replace the rack and pinion. Just ruined my Christmas trip, I was going to go and spend Christmas eve with my son but now I cannot. I have been in the automotive field for over 20 years and yes, I know that you get good and bad parts from time to time, but a rack going bad at 8800 miles is crazy. Nissan needs to submit a recall as we do when we find a part that is defective from the time it is produced
And the whining sound is a issue as well as it is drifting on the highway. I am glad I have a great service department and I know the tech and he always takes care of any issues I may encounter with any car I own. But if these issues do not get fixed, other measures will have to be taken and I know other Nissan owners will be right there with me.
Update from Apr 28, 2015: They had to replace my rack
