The breaks on the Altima have squeaks since I first purchased the car in March of 2014, I have taken the first car back at least once a month, they said it was taken care of, but the problem still persistent. In 2017 I purchased another Altima 2014 with 1900 miles on it. The problem started again about 2 months later, so again I take the car back to the dealer ship.

Again the problem is repaired or it does not squeak when I leave it with them, so I had the breaks repaired by dealership on12/12/19 spent 600.00, breaks still making noise. Car in again at least once a month. Nissan states test drove no problems found and inspected breaks in great condition. But when I get it back same problem. The last time I took car back to Nissan for break problem was in August of 2021, still found no problem, so I just stop taking it in, but I will say that every person I know with a Nissan has had or is having a brake problem with the SQUEAKING. Once I get rid of this car Nissan I will never purchase another.

When I bought my used 2014 Nissan Altima , I immediately noticed a squeal in the brakes while backing out of the driveway slowly. Then I noticed there were squealing while coming to a stop at a slow pace. I first complained to the dealership that sold me the car ( CHAPMAN CHRYSLER), and they said that it has new brake pads and I should drive and then come to long slow stops and that should remedy the squealing in time. Two and a half months later, I took the car to two different Nissan dealers and they said that the squealing was a Normal occurrence in the Altimas . No one has given me a solution to the problem . The squealing is loud , irritating , and embarrassing !

Backing Plate Rubbing Noise - Low Mileage - Progressively More Annoying Low Speed - Higher Speeds - More Noise Dealer Service Familiar with Issue - Never Fixed It Dealer Said Noise is from Backing Plate and just needs to be repositioned or bent back.

Fast forward 2016 - Brought in For Hood Latch Recall April 2016 and Asked Dealer to Assess this Scraping Noise Problem as well. Told to have rotors turned since they did not have replacement rotors in stock for 2014 Altima. Cost $179 Suggested to have Rear Brakes replaced - $350 Air Filter $29 Cabin Filter $79....etc etc....whew!

Both front and rear brakes within specifications - no pulsing was evident. Stopping is consistent. Independent mechanic says to replace front rotors instead of turning due to excessive labor costs. Gold Plan Extended Warranty in effect which covers backing plate problems. Waiting for dealer to respond to suggestions on how to fix this obviously common problem. So any good ideas on how to remedy this front end scraping noise coming from the passenger wheel?

Update from May 14, 2016: Sent email to Dealer - NO response to suggestion that vehicle be serviced under extended premium warranty or simply adjusting backing plate or removing rust by burnishing.
Just as I sent the email yet another recall for airbag failure was announced on the news.

Light metallic rubbing noise seems to now occur after car has traveled for a few miles. So $180 solution for rust buildup on rotors is the best the dealer has to offer.

Update from Feb 12, 2018: Since the original complaint I have had the rotors and pads replaced 2x at a CHEVY Dealer that also owns a NIssan Dealership next door.....within a week the car sounds like two rusty iron pans rubbing together....and now I can see scoring on the rear rotors AFTER coming in for a 6 month cleaning/checkup.
Not blaming the Chevy dealer but Nissan will not likely get return business.

Going in today 2-12-18 for the 3rd time with the Chevy dealer (very nice folks) for what appears to be a futile effort to remedy this more-than-annoying problem. Extended warranty? - sure got that...it is almost as good as the undercoating they had installed by Hellen Keller. From tget go this vehicle has been pretty much a POS and will no doubt become a burden - will have to trade it in as no one in their right mind would ever touch this car.

Update from Apr 22, 2018: It is April 22, 2018 - I have had this POS into a well respected modern multi-dealer facility which sourced brake parts from their Nissan entity next door to replace rotors, pads, clips etc. The Vehicle has had two (2) new sets of rotors and pads replaced in one year and every month or so it has to go back under warranty to be cleaned so the horrific noise which sounds like tin pans banging against each other will subside (notice - not go away) for a short while - say 3-4 weeks. People stop and stare as you travel down the street - the mechanic said that Nissan tried some kind of retaining clip that was supposed to keep the pad away from the rotor just enough to reduce friction/increase mileage/ reduce wear and tear only to get clogged up with brake and road debris and stop functioning. Apparently the delicate nature of the clips is such that they must be spotless to work - yeah some genius must have devised that for a location which is always dirty...stupid. Absolutely NO ONE has a clue how to fix it. How about using a substitute pad retainer clip of some sort?? Nissan has abandoned the Altima line of vehicles apparently b/c they could care less. Pure crap.

Brak esquealing and squeaking at start than quit after a few miles. Same problems as the other complaints. Dealer offer to smooth down the rotor. From other post, this is a temporary fix. No fix yet. I have called Nissan Consumer Affairs 877-647-6281, nnaconsumeraffaires@nissan-USA.com and spoke with Adrian. He took down information and he said a specialist will call me back tomorrow. I will report of the outcome.

Update from Aug 26, 2015: Just finished a call with KC Nissan Consumer Affairs, nnaconsumeraffairs@nissan-usa.com. I had an extra "e" earlier on the email. She is actually assisting John, my case representative. She suggested that I go to a different Dealer and keep calling on different ones until they said yes. That doesn't make sense to me. She said different dealers will respond differently. I told her that it is would be the same result. Nalley Nissan of Decatur, GA offered to smooth the brake rotors at a cost to me.

My 2014 Altima is still under 36K warranty but dealer state brakes are not covered. I told her this is a known issue; there are many complaints. Even after the rotors were smooth out, the squealing still come back according to the complaints. What will Nissan do to fix this squealing and squeaking problem? I told her Nissan has to inform the the dealers that the brake squealing is a known issues and that the dealer should fix it and charge to Nissan. I just hope that Nissan will do the right thing so that this won't be my first and last Nissan. I will wait on John's call. She said that it may take 3 to 4 days. We will have to just keep listening to the annoying and embarrassing squealing and squeaking for a few day.

Update from Aug 27, 2015: Nissan consumer affairs said, brakes is your responsibility even though, the problem is the annoying squealing and squeaking. This will be my first and last Nissan.
