CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2014 Nissan Altima shows multiple problem trends, continuing the poor reputation of the 2013 Altima, prompting us to give it our "Beware of the Clunker" badge.
We only have owned the car since Aug 29th 2014. We have even had the car undercoated.
Noticed this rust in photo in the summer. While bringing the car in for another warranty item, i pointed it out to the service people and they confirmed that they would fix it ( sandblast and repaint) under warranty. I notice after the work being done there seems to be a plastic gasket that fits between the chrome accent plate and the actual deck ..sort of like a buffer. Really hoping this fixes it because I have never heard of a car in recent memory ever rusting this fast. I didn't think they built them like that anymore.
I opened my trunk and found rust on both sides of the licence plate. Upon closer examination I found four rust spots along the face of the trunk. My car had not even had its first oil change yet.
Nissan will send my car to a body shop on 22 Jul 15.
I certainly did not expect this to be happening to a car that I bought new and is just barely 1 year old. The car has been rust checked and it was at the annual inspection that this was noted, I did not notice it my self as it is hidden when the trunk is closed. It was never picked up during all the "maintenance"points that have been done faithfully.
The dealer has promised to fix at their (probably Nissan's) cost by removing and replacing the trim piece, sanding and repainting plus placing a piece of paint protection film underneath the trim piece.
The service manager said that they had seen this problem several times and blamed the problem on the trim piece supplier suggesting that the piece was "out of spec".
It is fine that they are willing to fix the problem at no cost (not!) to me, however they are going to take 3 days to paint the car and return it to me. They will not cover the cost of a replacement vehicle over this time frame forcing me to rent a replacement vehicle for something that is obviously a manufacturing defect!
Any points gained by repairing for free lost when no replacement vehicle offered!
