CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2013 Nissan Altima has multiple problem trends including the CVT transmission, and now that this model is out of warranty, it earns our "Avoid Like The Plague" badge.

Owners complain about vibration and transmission failure related to the CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission), a whining noise from the power steering pump, and constant windshield problems that appear to be the result of poor design.

Be warned: the 2014 & 2015 Nissan Altima appears to share these same problems.

Altima SV 2.5L

Noticed uneven tread wear on the front left wheel. It was worn much more than any of the other tires, which were all about the same in tread wear. Took it to a shop, they reported and showed me that the ball joint on the lower control arm on the opposite (front right) side was busted. They replaced the lower control arm for ~$250-$300 with labor. New tire and alignment was around $150 bringing the total to $450. Only possible cause I can think of is a pothole I hit that was enough to give me a flat a while before that.

Altima SV 3.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 11,000 miles

I bought my Altima new with 42 miles on it November 2012. At 11,000 miles my tires were worn out. The dealership said my car is meant to wear tires faster, bull. Turns out they put cheap tires on it and I thought I was done. I've had to replace the tires at 26,000 miles, 36,000 miles and now 2 more tires at 47,000 miles.

To back up a little but, last November I hit a deer, well, the deer hit me on my passenger side which did almost 14,000$ damage. 2 months after I got it back I needed tires. I bought new tires with 40,000 mile warranty for700$. Not much later they were bald with wires hanging out. Nissan said the alignment was not done like suppose to, then replaced the tires and aligned it. 3 months later, now at 11,000 miles, guess what? 2 tires are worn out to nothing. Nissan picked it up and said it was out of alignment. After a mouthful, they inspected my car and said their alignment machine was out of caliber and they're gonna replace the two tires.

I'm getting sick and tired of paying 565$ a month car payment and having to have my tires replaced more often than normal. Is anyone else having a problem? My tire issue was before my accident and I do not drive crazy, fyi.
