I am so upset because I experienced an incredibly horrifying experience last night. My daughter and I were traveling back from NYC on a pitch black Route 80 at 9:30pm when the maintenance oil pressure warning light came on. I had my daughter look up the warning in your manual which stated that I needed to IMMEDIATELY pull the vehicle over and STOP the engine and call a NISSAN dealer or other authorized repair shop. It also stated "the engine oil pressure warning light is not designed to indicate a low oil level. Running the engine with the engine oil pressure warning light on could cause serious damage to the engine almost immediately and such damage is not covered by the warranty. Turn off the engine as soon as it is safe to do so." OMG...are you kidding me? I pull off the very next exit I could scared out of my mind. It was a lonely Shell Gas Station and my daughter was hysterically crying! The gas station was desolate and there were a couple people around pumping their gas. I let the car sit a bit with the engine off and waited for everyone to leave. I was afraid to attract attention from others as a woman and get robbed or raped or murdered. Everyone cleared out so I popped the hood. Thank God I had a flashlight in the car so that I could check the oil on the dipstick. Again, my daughter was crying inside the locked car as I tried to check the oil. She was terrified for me being out there checking under the hood alone. I had given her instructions to stay inside the locked car and lay on the horn if anything happened. As I was checking the oil, two cars pulled in and right away, the men came right over and asked what I was doing. They may have meant well but I was so terrified that I wet myself. We went through pure hell. I told them I called for service and prayed they'd leave me alone! I saw plenty of oil on the dipstick and checked it three times to make sure. I closed the hood and proceeded to try and find your NISSAN emergency number. I didn't want to move the car for fear of voiding my warranty! I had to read practically every manual to find your emergency number. By now, my daughter was having an anxiety attack and was hyperventilating. I found the number, called, went through all the prompts to finally speak to a human being on the phone. I gave my information and was told I probably just needed an oil change because I was at 3700 miles! OMG! Are you kidding me? I have never been through so much turmoil in my life. It was 45 minutes of pure hell and agony! I don't know if my daughter will ever feel safe in this car again! I have a mess on my hands with her and I'm sick to my stomach about the whole thing! Prior to this Altima, I've leased an Acura TL, Cadillac CTS, and a Volvo S60. I had one issue with the Acura with a flat tire and had a totally pleasant experience from finding the Acura emergency number to dealing with my issue. The other cars never failed me once. This car is now tainted and I'm sick over it because I loved this car. Why would you put that wording in your manual to scare people to death? Why isn't the service number for emergencies plainly written all over the manual? Why are you unnecessarily frightening people about voiding their warranties? Why isn't there a separate warning for oil change like every other car giving a percentage of oil life? We were scared out of our minds and thought we were going to be robbed or worse. It may sound extreme to you but this is how we felt. A mother and a daughter stranded at a desolate gas station far from home on a cold, dark night. I've seen horrific stories about this kind of thing that ends badly on television. I want you to know how you ruined our perfect mother/daughter day and how this experience possibly ruined my future mother/daughter excursions. I had to drive her to school this morning in another vehicle. She is still concerned about blowing up the motor! I want a reply and some kind of consolation. My fear has turned to anger today! Sincerely, Lisa Baran This is the email I sent the next day to Nissan. They asked what consolation I was looking for and I asked for a year's subscription to Sirius satellite radio in the very least and possibly a dealership installed, rear spoiler put on the vehicle. They called to say I incurred no expense other than an oil change and I wasn't due any type of consolation for my troubles. I hate Nissan and will never buy another Nissan vehicle again. So much for customer service and good will. I am reporting them to every car agency, website or blog I can find on the web.
