CarComplaints.com Notes: You don't want to get 2009 and 2010 Altima owners started about their cars. That is, unless, you know how to start their cars.
These vehicles can suddenly become impossible to start thanks to a faulty electronic steering column lock (ESCL). Nissan dealers will gladly replace it, but that will run you $1000.
More info & videos about the Nissan ESCL defect are available over at NissanProblems.com.
It's one of the many reasons this car was named CarTalk's Turd of the Week and given our Beware of this Clunker badge. Two dubious honors.

When I drive the Altima, stop at light, move my feet from the brake and press the gas, there is jerky noise coming from the transmission or drivetrain. I took the car to a mechanic. He told me first the the fuel pump is bad. At 36,600 miles, I paid $575 parts and labor.
Then the noise returned. I went to Nissan Dealer but they were not aware of any issue like that-they couldn't help me.
My mechanic researched the problem. He told me the 1st option was to order special grease from Nissan is called Molykote M77-Part Number # 44003-7S000 for $129. He changed both axles for me. I spent $550 for both CV Axle parts and labor and $575 for the fuel pump.
This so bad for Nissan. Someone is going to get killed in one of these vehicles because of this design flaw. Any one experiencing this problem needs to start making some noise.
