Cars dashboard is melting. The dashboard is literally peeling off when touched. Sticky residue remains on the dashboard and it won't clean off. Whenever the sun is out, the shiny, sticky dashboard reflects onto the windshield causing a blinding glare. This glare almost caused accidents because of the limited visibilty. This problem needs to be fixed by Nissan.

2008 model year Nissan Altima coupe - recurring problem with dashboard. Dashboard material "melts" when exposed to sunlight or radiant heat from being parked in the sun. The dash material feels oily to the touch and becomes malleable; touching it leaves a permanent impression. The main issue, however, is that the dashboard becomes highly reflective and causes glare, drastically reducing visibility. The vehicle is parked under shade as often as possible and a sun shade is used on the front windshield when there's no shade to park under - practices which have kept up since the car was purchased new in November 2007. The problem has been getting worse over time; becoming increasingly shiny each time it is exposed to sunlight. I'm thankful I haven't been in an accident caused by this issue but am certainly concerned by the reduced visibility. Many other complaints about this issue can be found on the Nissan infiniti car owners online forum: forums.nicoclub.com/my-dashboard-is-melting-T569582.html

My dash is melting! it was fine until April 2014 when the weather started getting warmer and the black dash became tacky to the touch. It has now begun melting with shiny/sticky globs all over and makes a horrible glare on the windshield making it hard to see with the glare from the dash. I have tried all sorts of products to see if that would help but nothing does and it is getting worse.

I have had my car since 2008. Bought it brand new from Nissan in kendall miami, fl. Last year I started to notice that what has seemed like a regular wear from the car, has turned into a safety issue while driving. There is a glare when the sun hits the dash making it nearly impossible to see clearly. I know it sounds strange, but my dash is melting. This is a serious safety as I could potentially get into an accident. The only temporary solution we have found is to purchase a custom made dashboard. However, I don't see why Nissan has not helped. I brought it back to my local dealership and they have said that since I am out of warranty, I'm out of luck. I've had attorneys offering to start a class action lawsuit being that I am not the only one with this issue, but all I want is to have my dash replaced and that's it. It is only fair that Nissan would stand behind the product. Is there anything that I can do about this? thank you in advance.

The driver's side mirror is housed in a casing of reflective metal, the same as the rest of the body of the car. The shape of the shaft connecting the casing to the door is shaped nearly parabolic, which means that if parallel rays of light (such as from the sun) are collected and focused so that they concentrate at one point. As it happens, the glare from the sunlight concentrates at a point right around where the driver's eyes would be. At least near my eyes, though I'm taller than average (6'5"). the glare is very distracting for me. I have to lean off to the side to try to avoid the glare. In the past I've gotten around the problem by cutting strips of black gaffer's tape (a kind of tape used by tv and sound professionals) and covering up the top of the mirror housing. It was recently taken off when I had some scratches buffed out elsewhere on the car. I happened to get some direct sun today, so I grabbed some pictures to share with you, if you want them.

I drive a new 2008 Nissan ultima that I have had for the last year and a half. My complaint is regarding the windshield/wiper usage. In inclement weather I feel that while using my windshield wipers I can not see as I should or have in other cars. While using the windshield wipers it blurs the windshield like I am looking through a film. I am on the road every day for two hours and this whole last week it has rained every day...so for the last week of continual use I am still complaining of this problem. I have had this problem since I drove the car off the lot new. I feel this could cause injury/crash in the future due to this problem. There is not a specific date so I input a date near the purchase of this vehicle.
