CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2005 Nissan Altima has two fairly significant problems with the floor pan rusting through & motor mounts breaking.

Altima owners report that up to a basketball-size hole develops under the floor mats where the floor pan metal rusts through. Average repair cost is over $1,000.

The broken motor mounts are less of a problem - they break at ~75,000 miles average & it's $400 to fix. Still, motor mounts should not break!

P0011 Bank 1 intake camshaft positions timing beyond limits. Was the error code. Problems with light, Sound is bad then goes away. Bothersome about the hard shift in 1st gear going into 2nd gear. Reported dying .... This should be a recall from NHTSA. Not the first time this has happened. This is the V6 automatic. SE. You would think Nissan would stand behind their product.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE MY CAR!!! Haven't had much problem(s). I bought my car used from a local auction. Needed a A/C compressor, serpentine belt and rear wheel bearing. I've had it was a year this past June. 2 Weeks ago I drove through 2 cut fields and didn't notice dragging anywhere along the way, if you own a Altima you surely know they ride very very low to the ground. I was there a few hours til early morning, leaving it running while I warmed up, I dozed off by accident waiting on my help, with the car still running.

When I awoke I left immediately, trying to slowly climb the grass hill, I realized I wasn't really moving as I accelerated more and more and still nothing changed, so I slid the gear shift from D to R and it jerked and made a pop sound like I've never heard or felt before, backed up a couple feet then shifted the shifter over into manual shift (1st gear) but instead of showing 1 it showed 5, I pulled down once then multiple times, AND NOTHING It won't change from 5th gear , I thought the dew on the grass was making me slip, so I went the long way around. I held the accelerator closer and closer to the floor, I didn't get any different results then before so I pulled across the road to my destination and turned it off. Then 20 minutes later I try to start it and it acted as if it didn't have gas. 3-4 tries and it finally started, it always started on the first try before. Well I drove it on home 5 miles and parked it. A friend hooked up a OBD II and it gave code P0345. I miss my car, HELP ANYONE PLEASE!!!

When I bought my Nissan Altima 2.5 S it was for its first owner and the car has never been in an accident. At the beginning when I was testing the car it seemed normal, as this was the first time I had driven an Altima. Time passed and it was getting worse and worse until I'm afraid to drive it. The car started slipping from 1st to 2nd gear and in every one of them it gets too much rpm before changing, I had to take the foot of the pedal so it would change at the proper time. I also realized that the car was going at too many rmp in 4th, and then I knew the car wasn't changing to 5th, actually it never did since I bought it.

Adding to this problem, when I got the car it would take about 10 mins to heat and another 2 for changing from park to Drive/Reverse, I got this problem fixed with trans tune-up and had to change engine gasket. About 3000 miles passed and now when i let the car heat to start driving it will do a really bad SLAM when changing to Drive or Reverse, and then all the day will act normal. (it seems to happen when its been more than 5-6 hours without use) And now a new problem appeared, when I press too much the pedal in 1st and reaches 4-5k rpm wont change the gear, even if I try to do it manually, but when I release the pedal it SLAM to the 2nd gear.

I've seen a lot of people with this problems in the internet, but haven't seen any response. I hope Nissan can solve this ant take response of it as is affecting a lot of people and must of them not have money to fix the car or buy a new one like me.

transmission started jerking, then quick jerk when shifting. sometimes it will jerk real hard. while hot, the transmission goes into safe mode and the car became real slow. push on gas and the car just slowly picks up. then one day i went fishing nearby and after fishing done for the day, went to start and the car wouldn't start. fortunately it start but stalls immediately after putting it into "D" gear and/or any gear for that matter.

i finally replaced the transmission, cost $2900!! everything was back running again.

Dealer says it will cost around $3000 to fix this tranny. After all the reports on the web that this problem is a design issue, seems Nissan ought to man up and do a recall. Last Nissan for us for sure.
