CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2005 Nissan Altima has two fairly significant problems with the floor pan rusting through & motor mounts breaking.

Altima owners report that up to a basketball-size hole develops under the floor mats where the floor pan metal rusts through. Average repair cost is over $1,000.

The broken motor mounts are less of a problem - they break at ~75,000 miles average & it's $400 to fix. Still, motor mounts should not break!

On occasion, my car clutch sinks to the ground and loses all pressure. The car would be out of commission until the pressure comes back in about a 1/2 hr. Nissan has constantly said that they have never heard of such problems and always check my car when the problem is not there. This can be very hazardous in heavy traffic.

I own a 2005 Nissan SE-R. on several occasions over the past 3 years I have owned the car, the clutch failed. As many others have stated, this was impossible to replicate, but a very serious and unsafe issue. We were getting no relief from our dealerships and the manufacturers. The clutch will sink to the floor and I was unable to engage into any gear except neutral. Tried to bring the car in, but the closest I got was a street away when the clutch engaged again. I knew if they can't duplicate it there was nothing they could do. At least when it was under warrantly. That was what I was told for the 3 years I had the car. I live in atlanta and travel on the major highways, trying to get over 5 lanes of traffic in neutral was very unsafe. I guess it was a good thing I have about 6 airbags in the car so when someone plowed into me, I won't die and maybe no one else will either. This was a real issue that many people stated on Nissan forums as well. Attention needed to be drawn to this issue.

My clutch in my 2005 Altima SE-R has sank to the floor causing me to pump the clutch while driving. I believe this is unsafe for any driver. This not only causes a wreck by not engaging in gear, it also put others in danger if my car goes out.

Noises from clutch, noises from transmission. Since day 1. rough engagement of 2nd gear. Clutch makes many creaking noises, transmission whines in every gear. 2nd gear and 3rd gear grind occasionally, and 2nd gear has a very rough engagement at times. Nothing has been done to remedy the problem yet.

Drove to the mall and drove to target. Came back to drive the car and put the car into reverse. The stick was stiff and it was a little difficult to put into reverse. I then put the car into first gear which again it was a little difficult. When I stopped to enter into traffic and proceeded, the stick popped out of gear and I couldn't get the car into gear and an oncoming car almost hit me. I finally got it to go into reverse and luckily no one was behind me. After trying to move the stick around into all the gears, second gear and reverse were the only functionally gears I had. I drove the car in second gear to the dealer where I purchased the car. It was just around the corner from target.
