CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2005 Nissan Altima has two fairly significant problems with the floor pan rusting through & motor mounts breaking. Read more »
Altima owners report that up to a basketball-size hole develops under the floor mats where the floor pan metal rusts through. Average repair cost is over $1,000.
The broken motor mounts are less of a problem - they break at ~75,000 miles average & it's $400 to fix. Still, motor mounts should not break!
The throttle position sensor has the car getting really poor gas mileage, showing plums of black smoke at intervals and losing power! This is typical of a Nissan with their cheap parts seemingly designed to last just out of warranty. I've been trying to get this car running at maximum for nearly a year now but this one glitch has been a pain in the rear not to mention pocket. There was NO specific code for this problem noted unless you have a $30,000.00 Nissan specific reader. They do not want you to be able to get a proper diagnosis else where so they can burn you a new one. Nissan has to make their cars look good so that you will buy based upon that.
