CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2005 Nissan Altima has two fairly significant problems with the floor pan rusting through & motor mounts breaking.

Altima owners report that up to a basketball-size hole develops under the floor mats where the floor pan metal rusts through. Average repair cost is over $1,000.

The broken motor mounts are less of a problem - they break at ~75,000 miles average & it's $400 to fix. Still, motor mounts should not break!

Not really sure of the rant to go on here. Definite pain, seem to be significantly worse a year later. Had crankshaft position senor changed which seemed to worsen the problem.

I have had this car since June of 2015. This is the third time I had it towed to the local mechanic. This time he said it's the crankshaft position sensor and the camshaft position sensor. He wants to charge me a arm and a leg. When searching for the parts I came across a government website telling me that there was a recall on the 2005 Nissan Altima with a 2.5 engine. When I search the VIN number for the vehicle and call the Nissan Dealer, they keep telling me that there was no recall, but it is public record that there was. They just do not want to fix it. All I want is my car fixed enough to run safely. I have two children under the age of 3 and I cannot be without a car. I just wish they would just fix it already.

A day before the start of Christmas holidays, I took my trusty (or so I thought) Nissan to work in -22 degrees Celsius weather to work and when I was about to go home, it didn't want to start. I cranked it multiple times but the car was adamant. At first, I thought maybe the battery had drained due to the cold, however, after waiting 2.5 hours for the tow in bone-chilling cold, I found out that it was not so. It was late at night and all my coworkers had left so I couldn't ask anyone for a boost either.

Had it towed next morning to my independent mechanic who told me that the crankshaft sensor had to be replaced at a cost of 200 dollars. Then I found out that Nissan had a recall for the reprogramming of ECU. However, the real defect was with the sensor itself. Quite upset that Nissan ignored this problem. It's not a question of money but that of integrity. My next car won't be a Nissan for sure.
