CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2005 Nissan Altima has two fairly significant problems with the floor pan rusting through & motor mounts breaking.
Altima owners report that up to a basketball-size hole develops under the floor mats where the floor pan metal rusts through. Average repair cost is over $1,000.
The broken motor mounts are less of a problem - they break at ~75,000 miles average & it's $400 to fix. Still, motor mounts should not break!
There I was in my Altima 2.5s, when all of a sudden the check engine light came on and after 2 minutes the car stalled! It happened again the next day. I had to remove the battery cable and reinstall. On the third day car failed to start. I visited a battery shop and bought one.
This car has been a real pain in the butt as in the last three months I've replaced the fuel pump, ignition coils, o2 sensors, cam & crank shaft sensors, mass air flow sensor, air fuel ratio sensor, fuel injectors, valve covers and, now am at the point of changing the EMC unit. I saved myself some $3,500 dollars by doing the repairs myself but, am still out of $1,500 to date. I now am having to take out the computer and, pay to have it evaluated or opt to buy a used one and have it flashed. In my opinion the 2005 Nissan Altima 3.5 5spd automatic is the worst car on the market. They were good when made in Japan. The resale value is poor too, I'd be afraid to compare it to a Daewoo, KIA or Hyundai.None of the Japanese cars are as good as when coming from Japan but, Honda/Acura,Toyota/Lexus are still raking at the top. I will never buy ANYTHING knowingly made by Nissan again and, it's bad when you have to pay to fix something to sell or trade it. I would fell right if I did not fix it right. All I can say is that whoever get's it after me should have NO issues with it.
