CarComplaints.com Notes: Here's a disturbing trend for the 2002 Nissan Altima: the engine starts burning oil like crazy, the catalytic converter goes bad, the head gasket blows and eventually the entire engine needs replacement. Sound familiar? Like a script from a horror film, these Altimas seem doomed to fail around 95k miles.

I have a 2003 nissan altma with 70,000 miles. I have had it for two years now, I relly love my car I am just frustrated. A couple of moths ago my service engine light came on a friend of mine took it to the dealer and sensors were replaced. The car was fine for a while then the light came on again. The car was driving great even with the light on nice and smooth, but now it is inspection time and it will not pass if the light is on.
I am a single mom and do not have money for what the dealer would charge. I took it to some private mechanics they used there machines and came up with large vacuum leak turns out it is my intake gasket. This is crap after reading all the other complaints about the gaskets. I agree there needs to be a recall. I do not have my car right now because it is getting fixed it is such an inconvenience. I did have one recall about a max frame that I was never notified about I learned about it when I had to take my car to the dealer to get new locks because they could not find the key code that was 456.00 thats with them knocking off 100.00 they should have all the key codes in their systems so they could of cut me another key. I feel your pain this is crap. I hope I do not have to take my car to the dealer
