CarComplaints.com Notes: Here's a disturbing trend for the 2002 Nissan Altima: the engine starts burning oil like crazy, the catalytic converter goes bad, the head gasket blows and eventually the entire engine needs replacement. Sound familiar? Like a script from a horror film, these Altimas seem doomed to fail around 95k miles.

My car was parked under the carport when it caught on fire. It was about four something in the morning & if it wasn't for my car alarm it could have set the whole house on fire with us in it. We jumped up when the alarm went off, ran to the door to find the hood of my car in flames. My boyfriend ran and started throwing water on it while I called the fire department. Once the fire department made it there they begin putting the fire out. After they put it out we asked them what was the cause of it to just catch on fire all of the sudden. they replied that the window shield wiper motor had malfunctioned and caught on fire. They started to asking us how did we know it was on fire, we told them that the car alarm had went off. They begin to tell us how lucky we were because it could have spread up to the house. That was my only means of transportation to get around - I have children that I have to take to the doctor. Now I am unemployed so I don't have any way to afford another car.
