My transmission light came out of the blue, with no previous warning. I wasn't sure what to make of it because I had just got my transmission checked that same day. I had to have it towed to a shop near me and thought it might be a sensor or something simple. The shop mechanic said that there was 3 sensors that needed attention and to take to Mitsubishi Dealer. I had to have it towed 119 miles to the nearest Mitsubishi dealer. Once there at Mitsubishi Dealer, they said that my repair would cost $11,000! You can imagine my shock and I think I am still in shock, my car has only 103,550 miles on it. I don't have extra coverage after the 100,000 mile warranty. I didn't think I need it because cars usually keep going even after 200,000 miles. I'd like to know how many more Mitsubishi Outlander owners have any problems similar to mine??

Not sure where to go from here as I still owe on my car. Really discouraging news for me, and I reached out to Mitsubishi Motors, thinking they might honor my request for help BUT there is nothing they can do. These companies who have $$$ cannot even help in any way. My husband and I are on fixed incomes and cannot afford this cost.

CVT Transmission failed after only 44,500 miles. The dealer says it needs to be replaced by a new one which will cost me $8900 (tax included). 5 year warranty expired in February of 2021. They already charged me an additional $899 dollars for the 30,000 mile service. They told me that by doing this service, the problem may go away. Then they told me that there was no other option but to to replace the CVT transmission at the cost mentioned above ($8900) which I think is excessive for a faulty transmission.

Mitsubishi was contacted by the NHTSA in July 2016 regarding the CVT transmission failure problems. Mitsubishi at that time and currently still deny the issue. The transmission was installed in their vehicles to get better gas mileage and higher acceleration in smaller engines. This type of transmission has failed many owners with low mileage on the vehicle (around 25,000) and upwards.

My vehicle is starting to develop problems that will lead to failure at around 103,000 miles. I took the vehicle to the dealership and they quoted me that to replace the transmission would cost $9,400. I went to a transmission shop to get a second opinion and he quoted $7,000. The transmission shop informed me that they have seen a lot of problems with CVT transmissions, including lasting only 3 to 5 years before failure. Nissan, Ford, Subaru, Toyota, Honda, and Mitsubishi are the manufacturers who commonly use this type of transmission.

After purchasing this vehicle in March 2017, had I known or researched recalls and CVT transmissions, I would not have bought this vehicle. Likewise, the dealership should not have sold a vehicle that knowingly had a defect that would cost as much to repair or replace. I live in Louisiana, which has the worst Lemon Law in the country. I need help finding a lawyer to handle that will handle filing a suit against the manufacturer and the dealership. PLEASE RESPOND WITH ANY HELP AND LIKEMINDED COMMENTS.

I purchase my 2016 Outlander from a local dealership with 36K miles on it. They did not tell me that there were multiple recalls on the transmission. They certified that they had checked it out completely and that there were no error messages for the engine or any other parts. The car was a rental and knowing that I should have done more extensive research but everything I could find at the time highly recommended the car. It drove great without any issues for 30K more miles. The issue started on my first long trip where I used the cruise control. At interstate speeds of 70 mph it started hesitating like it was having trouble shifting. I thought it was something wrong with the cruise so I killed the cruise and the issue stopped. I forgot about it when I got back to town but months later on another trip the same thing happened. I could see my tachometer going up and down for no reason. The hesitation got really bad. So bad that the check engine light came on. Thinking that Mitsubishi covered the power train up to 70K miles I called the closest dealer to Jackson, MS and brought it to them. They ran diagnostics on it and said that I had 3 recalls (that I never received) so they updated them. The last one had to do with the transmission. They told me they would have to order a part and that it would be better for me to take it in to my local dealer to handle the warranty. I did that as soon as I got to Alexandria, LA. Where after extensive checking and ordering the needed recall part, they told me that my transmission had failed and that it would cost $9,500 to replace. And to top it all Mitsubishi would not honor the warranty because I was a second owner. At the time I owed 10K on the car. They offered me 3K in cash and if I fixed the transmission would give me a whopping 10K. You do the math. That is completely insane. Walker Automotive in Alexandria is the dealer. Now my really nice car sits in my carport and has for almost a year. Can't drive it, can't afford to fix it, so I continue to pay the notes - now on two cars. I know that if that dealer wanted a returning customer they could have contacted Mitsubishi and worked it out. I will NEVER buy another car from them or MITSUBISHI. Yes I got multiple bids to replace the trany but the cheapest was 9K. It's totally crazy for a transmission to go out that soon.
