Don't know why Mitsubishi has not done anything about these transmissions. I was going to work when the Transmission light went on. Did not know what to do since the car is a 2016 and the warranty was gone. At this point, found a mechanic who was willing to fix it for 5000. I agreed to the price and he tried getting a brand new Valve body part from Mitsubishi just to find out that this part has been discontinued. They don't keep it in stock, or make new ones. SOO SOL! The mechanic went ahead and changed some parts on the valve body, but did not fix the transmission problem. At this point I was forced to buy a used transmission from a reputable junk yard and that fixed the problem ($9,000 later!) Don't get me wrong, I like my Lancer! It's just that now I am forced to see if I can trade it for another car without a CVT! Can't Mitsubishi come up with a better answer for the buying public?

CVT transmission failure. To be honest, I drive hard. Before my Lancer I had a MonteCarlo ss, and I have driven my lancer like it was an ss. Many full throttle starts and hard cornering. So, the trans went out on the highway on the way home. I called the dealership and they wanted to change its oil, which is normal service that I had to pay for. Oil changes are required every 30,000 so it needed it anyway. They test drove it and trans is still not working, surging all over the place. They replaced the trans and now I drive it gently. the job took a few days but all good now.
