A tire blew out on a 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer. In the process of changing the tire, the jack collapsed. No-one was hurt. There are other instances of this happening to other owners of these vehicles. Mitsubishi's North american customer service department was contacted. After little interest in this incident the customer service representative was asked if this wasn't considered a safety issue and of other reports of similar incidents on the internet. After being told to take the jack to a Mitsubishi dealer to verify the jack was defective the jack was replaced free of charge and the old jack was kept by the Mitsubishi dealer. Photo's of the broken jack were taken.
