The contact owns a 2001 Mitsubishi Galant. While driving various speeds, the speed would decrease and the vehicle would stall. When the vehicle was restarted, it would only remain on for a few minutes. Occasionally, it would take up to an hour for the vehicle to restart and then stall again. The vehicle was taken to an auto body shop for diagnostic testing. The mechanic stated that the crankshaft wiring harness failed and an ignition sensor failure appeared on the diagnostic. A new crankshaft was installed and the vehicle was driven to the contact's residence, where it began to stall again. The vehicle was taken back to the repair shop and they discovered issues with the wiring heading to the crankshaft. The dealer stated that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign id number 00V299001 (engine and engine cooling:engine). The failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 86,666. Updated 5/26/09 the consumer stated thee vehicle would not restart until it had cooled down for an 1 hour or 2. the consumer discovered there was recall for the parts that were causing the vehicle to stall. There was a vibration and brake pulsation. The front rotors were inspected and were found warped. The dealer replaced the two front tires to eliminate the vibration in which the problem remained. The tires were changed 11 times in less than a year. The vibration remained and was most noticeable when the vehicle accelerated or on bends and remained throughout the range of driving speeds. The drive train was thought to be the problem per conrad's(service dealer). There also were dangerous fumes when the vehicle was started inside the passenger compartment, the fuel gauge had become inoperative, and there was premature rusting in the seams of the engine.
