The contact owns a 2009 Mitsubishi Eclipse. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 35 mph, the accelerator pedal was depressed but the vehicle failed to accelerate. In addition, the shift gear would independently shift from third gear to neutral. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 49,000.
