So ever since I bought my car which I'm still financing til this day, my service engine light has been on. I fixed so many problems with this car and I still can't drive it. When my tags was due in April 2016 I took it to get smog at a STAR test only center because I've been having trouble with it since day 1, and I was told I had to replace my egr valve and I did. I was told to drive it for 80 miles, well that same day I had it replaced I had no. More engine light. So after driving it to work to make up for the lost hours so I can pay my car note, I took it back so that I can get my tags, it still fail smog, oh and did I mention by this time I drove it 174 miles. So I drove it some more because they told me to drive it longer it just takes time for it to kick in. During this time into the 3rd week of the month my engine light came back on so after work it was off. I took it back to the shop who replaced the valve and they told me they can't check it if the light isn't on. So at the last week of the month I took it back to see my f it will pass, to my surprise it didn't and by this time I have driven it 746 miles. Afterwards I called the BBB and while I was driving home the light was back on but this time it stayed on. So the next morning I took it back to the shop and they couldn't check cuz they was busy and I had to get to work. So I took it to another shop and when he hooked up the diagnostic test it came back egr,o2, system to lean. But what I don't understand is if I took it in the first time and all this didn't pop up til after the egr valve was replaced. So the BBB referred me the the company called the referee which they sent me a letter stating that I have to take it to the dealership and have my monitor re programmed well I can't do that because I already paid $50 for a temporary tag for the month of May and that expired and they only gave me a 1 day moving permit which I used to find out this problem. So now the other problem is that my rims has no sealant to hold air in the tires, which explains why I went through many tires since I had this car, because of the problems with my car, my work has been affected so my payments has been as well, it has gotten repossessed and had to pay $965 to get it back and I still can't drive it to this day. My car was going to be paid off in October but due to my lack of hours, paying shops for fixing it, paying dmv to drive it, it's just sitting at my house with 2 flat tires, no current tags and 2 months of late payments. And just to think this was my dream car.

certain obd2 monitors will not set to pass smog test

Ever since we bought this car from a used car lot, we have ALWAYS had problems passing the state emissions test/smog test. Every 2 years this happens. First time, the dealer had it smogged, and it some how passed, even though when I drove it off the lot, the check engine light came on. I took it back and told them, they said dont worry, stop by our mechanic down the street, he will help you. So I did, guess what? He said he would need my car for TWO WEEKS, and it was just something ' electrical ' . I just got this car, I needed it to drive to work, I couldnt leave it for two weeks. Not to mention I could tell this guy was shady, since he was suppose to recharge my cars freon, but said I had a LEAK. (Which is BS because me and a friend bought some at auto zone, and it filled up,and worked just fine.) So I passed on the two week offer, and figured I'd just handle the problem later. 2 years later, The 2nd time , the smog place said it didnt pass, but they could fix it for $200. So we paid, it passed. Month later? Check engine light is on again. The smog repair shop we had it done at? Closed down.Gone. A year later(before my last smog attempt) we took it to Bowlins in Chula Vista for the CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. Around $700 + later, they said they fixed or replaced the following, EGR solenoid, a sensor and something to do with a vacuum. 6 months later? Check engine light back on. Bowlins said we passed the warranty period,so we would have to pay all over again. Finally I found an honest mechanic who replaced the EVAP, and? FINALLY,NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. So its time to smog the car again. Failed. The EGR monitor is not set/ready.We even took it to the MITSUBISHI dealer, and what a horrible mistake that was. They kept our car for 3 days, and all they did was clean out the throttle body.Said the EGR is working. Just saw the State Smog Referee,he said I have to take it to a STAR CERTIFIED Repair station, and they would know what to do. WRONG. 2 of them I visited wanted NO PART in trying to fix my problem. They actually told me no thank you. The one I just saw yesterday said they dont know what the problem is. They charged me $300 for a maf sensor, yet the problem is not fixed. I WILL NEVER BUY OR RECOMMEND A MITSUBISHI TO ANYONE. This car has been nothing but problems. Oh well. I learned an expensive lesson.
