When the engine light came on, I took it to Advance Auto Parts and had them read the code. It read as a P0128, I asked them if it was still okay to drive. They said it was fine and just get it fixed as soon as possible. We drove it for a couple of weeks before we were able to replace it. We replaced the coolant thermostat sensor and within a few days the car started smoking. When we opened the hood the sensor had been blown out of the socket and coolant was everywhere.
The next morning the concrete was covered in oil and coolant. We called some of the garages around us and asked them what may have caused this. They said that the car should not have been driven because it caused the head to crack. They said it would cost anywhere from $2,500 to $5,000 for the engine to be replaced and $1,700 for labor. We decided to just start saving for a newer car, since the engine would cost more than the car is worth.
