Driving on a Texas highway this morning at about 8:30 - temp was no more than 85 degrees - light traffic.
Heard a loud boom and Immediately thought it was a close gun fire.
Rained on by tiny shards of glass. The sunscreen was pulled forward and caught all major shattered pieces.
Forward sunroof had exploded without being struck. Looks as if it was punched by air FROM WITHIN.
Dealer service was quick to quote $600 for both sunroofs (tho only front one is damaged). I'm guessing this is to replace the defective glass before any further issues occur. Service manager tried to explain the problem as a rock or debris. Not buying it. He recommended I call Mini North America to report and ask for replacement. Doing that on the phone now.
This is a HUGE safety hazard, especially with the sun screen back as I usually have it. Should be an instant recall before a driver causes an accident because of injury or a baby or child is seriously injured in the back seat. As for me, still picking glass out of my hair and face/neck. God only knows how long I'll be finding pieces in the car. Not cool, Mini.
