I BOUGHT MY 05 MINI IN AUGUST 2017. CAR FAX REPORT ONLY ONE PREVIOUS OWNER AND ALL SERVICE REPORTS WERE RECORDED TO CAR FAX. IT ONLY HAD 70K MILES ON IT. WAS A GREAT LITTLE CAR. I NEVER EXPERIENCED ANY PROBLEMS UNTIL THE DAY IT BLEW UP.
SO I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN MY CAR SUDDENLY LOST POWER. I PULLED OVER TO THE SHOULDER AND SOON AS I PUT THE CAR IN PARK, BLACK SMOKE STARTED COMING THRU THE VENTS. I OPENED THE HOOD AND THERE WERE FLAMES COMING FROM DRIVERS SIDE UNDER THE WINDSHIELD. I GRABBED MY LUGGAGE AND ALL I COULD BEFORE THE FIRE GOT TOO INTENSE.
THE FIRE DEPARTMENT CAME AND THEY HAD A DIFFICULT TIME PUTTING OUT THE FLAMES. IT KEPT REIGNITING. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER SAID HE BELIEVES THE FIRE STARTED UNDERNEATH MY CAR ON THE DRIVERS SIDE AND THE FIREWALL IS WHAT PUSHED THE FLAMES TO ENGINE COMPARTMENT.
I CONTACTED BMW AND THERE ARE NO RECALLS ON MY CAR. THEY ARE SUPPOSE TO SEND AND INVESTIGATOR OUT TO SALVAGE TOW YARD. I HAVE CALLED SEVERAL TIMES AND LEFT MESSAGES WITH BETSY OF BMW CORPORATE OFFICE (SHE WAS ASSIGNED MY COMPLAINT) AND SHE HAS YET TO RESPOND. I HAVE DONE A LITTLE RESEARCH AND THERE HAVE BEEN MANY FIRES ASSOCIATED WITH MINI COOPERS AND BMWS.
