: the contact stated the engine overheated and idled at an elevated level while parked. There is a NHTSA recall, # 00V367000, regarding the engine. The vehicle was seen by an authorized dealer. The service department suggested replacing the wiring harness that supports the electrical currents of the engine. The vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall; however it is not included in the recall due to the VIN.

: the contact stated the vehicle temperature gage elevated while driving at normal highway speeds and the engine suddenly shut down. The vehicle had an odor of something burning like plastic. The vehicle was towed to an independent repair shop. The independent mechanic discovered exposed wires leading to the fan and engine. The radiator was flushed, engine performance enhancer was added, spark plugs were replaced, but the exposed wiring was not repaired. The independent mechanic discovered a recall concerning the fan wiring. The vehicle remained parked for two weeks before it was taken to a local service dealer. The dealer began working on obtaining authorization for the recall remedy, but the manufacturer would not authorize the recall remedy because of the age of the vehicle. The contact is the second owner of the vehicle, but the original owner did not receive a recall letter. Therefore the vehicle was never taken to a service dealer for repairs. There is a NHTSA recall, # 00V367000, regarding the engine and engine cooling. The vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall; however it is not included in the recall due to the time restrictions of the recall remedy.

Lights get very dim when engine cooling fan comes on. I had battery checked by advanced auto parts and it was fine. I found the vehicle had been recalled for a cooling fan issue on the autosite.com website.(campaign # 00V367000).. I called Ford recall dept on 8/16/05 & spoke to danielle in toronto Canada. After giving her my VIN # she said there were no any recalls for this issue expect for 1 to replace the fan fuse which was done 4 years ago according to her. I have owned the car for less then a year. I would like you to check into this. My VIN # is 1melm66lsk610829 1995 Mercury Mystique V6 2.5 liter. Thank you john shehadi.

At around 50,000 miles we noticed the housing that holds the driver\\'s side airbag coming loose. We received a couple of recall notices on other things so when we took it in to get the recalls done I asked the technician at sunflower Lincoln/Mercury if he could check out the problem with the airbag housing and possibly fix it for us. He called us back stating that the bolts had sheered off from the inside of the housing and that they couldn\\'t fix it and that we would have to pay between $300-$500 dollars out of our own pocket to get it fixed. We then called Lincoln/Mercury headquarters and were told that \\"the housing is just like a tire and that over time it wears out and that we would be responsible for any repair costs to it\\". I have a major problem when the technician tells me that the problem was the bolts sheering off from the inside and then being told it\\'s my problem. This becomes a safety issue for which I believe Mercury is responsible for. The problem sounds like faulty equipment and they have no intentions of doing anything in good faith about it.

6/15/03 I do not have the exact dates of problems, but I will relate my experiences. Shortly after purchase used in 1999, the brake light switch, which also controls the shift inter- lock, failed. Took it to the dealer and they found an open connection behind the glove box that controls the switch operation. They fixed that open connection and the switch worked fine. Then the switch problem started again. Tried a new switch and that failed after a few months. Have gone through six or seven switches and have one now that seems to work. I purchased and installed new switches myself after the first one because Ford was charging me about $15 for the part and around $90 to install. Asked service people at Ford and they told me that some switches work and some don't. asked another serviceperson at different dealership and was told these stop light switches rarely fail" got a service bulletin from Ford stating that the front strut springs could fail but not to bring the car in until they did fail. Got another bulletin stating that the main electrical connecter for the engine under the hood could fail but again don't bring the car in until this failure happens. Ford did repair a failed hi-speed heater blower connection at their cost. I asked the tech why he had to raise the car and he said, poor design. Poor design seems to be a common theme with the '95 Mystique. By the way mine is a four banger. I guess the most troubling was the brake light switch. Not only can the car not be shifted out of park, the brake lights won't work even when the manual over ride is used. Nothing like not having brake lights on today's roads! the car now has about 78,000 miles. Why so few" didn't want to drive with no brake lights. I see the '95 Mystique/Contour was nothing but problems. I don't know how service bulletins concerning front spring failure or main engine harness failure which I described above cannot be classified as recalls. Robert soderlund

Engine check light starting coming on fall 2000. Had diagnostics done by the dealer and a service station twice and nobody can find anything wrong. It comes on everyday about 5 minutes after the car has started and stays on the entire time the car is running. Started having problems with the coolant summer of 1999. The temp. Gage goes to 3/4 to all the way to the right. But I am told that nothing is wrong with that either. Yesterday the temp. Gage went into the red and the fan never kicked on. Checked the coolant reserve and the coolant was boiling out the top. I checked it before driving and it was normal. I'm tired of putting money into this car. Please look into the problem. Thank you.

Vehicle was taken to the Mercury dealer at 45396 and 56249 miles due to frequently running at the farthest side of nornal on engine temperature gauge (almost in the red danger zone) especially when on hills or in the mountains. We were told "the car is meant to run hot." No remedy was suggested by the dealer either time. At 53486 miles, a technician at an independent smog station said he had never seen a car run so hot. He ran a fan on the engine during the smog test. This is why the car was taken back to the dealer for a check of the engine running hot at 56249 miles. On 10/17/99, the car lost power while on the freeway and came to a halt at the side of the road., steam was coming from under the hood. The car did not restrart. Diagnosis at a nearby independent station revealed: Vehicle had been severely overheated. All spark plugs are contaminated with coolant, and all cylinders are filled with coolant. A tear down of the cylinder head revealed that cylinder head is severely warped.
