The contact owns a 2007 Mercury Milan. The contact stated that she became aware that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V904000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the braking system was flushed with DOT 4 fluid, and a new brake fluid reservoir cap was installed; however, the contact stated while driving 20 MPH, the brake pedal was depressed but went down to the floorboard and failed to respond. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that she engaged the electronic parking brake, and the vehicle stopped. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred while driving, and there was a stopping distance delay. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where the brakes were replaced; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the ABS module had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 67,000.

The contact stated that extended brake pedal travel was needed upon depression of brake pedal without warning. The contact had taken the vehicle back to the dealer where they informed him that they found no fault with the vehicle and could not help. The contact then took the vehicle to an independent mechanic who test drove the vehicle and agreed that the brake pedal was defective. The contact had taken the vehicle back to the dealer where two service mechanic had also test driven the vehicle and both confirmed that there was a defect with the brake pedal however, the contact would have to pay for a diagnostic. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and had offered no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000.
