ABS braking failed when brake pedal was applied vigorously while driving on a city street during slippery conditions. The ABS started to engage, then brake pedal went to the floor and brakes were lost. Repair shop replaced brake master cylinder but then found the ABS module was faulty. There are many reports listing these modules as being a problem

This morning when getting on freeway, ABS was activated due to snowy weather. After this, brakes needed to be pumped several times and the pedal pushed nearly to the floor for car to stop. Made it to work after narrowly escaping several potential accidents and sliding through a red light due to brake failure. Upon leaving work, brakes were still not functioning properly. The failure made it impossible to stop predictably. Once I returned home I decided to google the issue to see if other Mercury owners have had this issue. As it turns out, it is a massive problem for so many people. I cannot believe there hasn't been a recall yet. After reading so many accounts of accidents due to this issue I no longer feel safe driving my vehicle. I don't want to start replacing parts only to have the issue continue on as many other people have reported.

Brakes go soft or spongy resulting in increased brake distance/less responsive. While driving on on a major road I hit a bump and lost all of the pressure. They were never the same again. I have to push the pedal to the floor to brake.

Extended braking. Had my ABS hydraulic control unit replaced due to the common braking failure with this model year. Ford dealer replaced the part and about 9months later the part failed again. Both times I was traveling at highway speeds and narrowly avoid wrecking. Replacing the part does not fix the problem.

The contact owns a 2007 Mercury Milan. The contact stated that the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard several times without warning when it was depressed. The failure caused the contact to have to constantly pump the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. The brake master cylinder was replaced by an independent mechanic, but the failure recurred shortly after the repair. The part was replaced again, but the failure continued. Courtesy Ford Lincoln of rome (101 us-411, rome, ga 30161, (706) 235-4453) and the manufacturer were notified. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was not available.

The contact owns a 2007 Mercury Milan. The contact stated that the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard. The contact had to pump the brake pedal in order to stop the vehicle. While driving approximately 10 mph, the contact attempted to stop at a red light and the brakes malfunctioned. The contact rear ended another vehicle and caused minor damage. There were no injuries and a police report was not filed. An independent mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure; however, the brakes and hydraulic control were replaced. The mechanic diagnosed that the brakes collapsed and there may be a leak in the anti-lock brake system. The dealer and the manufacturer were not contacted. The failure mileage was 120,000.

When stopping on an icy/snow covered city street and the ABS kicks in the brakes either stop working or become soft. In the winter of 2018 the brakes stopped working altogether, I had them serviced and was told the ABS pump did not function properly. I had them serviced again today 2/28/19 and it was the same issue, ABS pump did not function properly.

When the antilock brake system activates, the brake pedal goes to the floor causing a loss of braking. The only way I've found to stop the vehicle is to pump the brake pedal until the braking resumes. However, once the vehicle stops, the brake pedal will continue to go to the floor very easily. I would pull over, put the vehicle in park, then press the pedal down several times very firmly, continuing until the antilock brake system builds up pressure (or comes out of a fail mode). My mechanic has worked on other Milan's having the same problem and after changing master cylinders and brake boosters, he said customers are reporting the problem still exists. Apparently there is a serious problem with the antilock brake system on this model vehicle. This has happened several times since approximately 2014 and only happens when the antilock brake system activates. The last time this happened was on January 3, 2019.

When I apply my brakes and my ABS kicks in I lose brake pressure and it takes longer to stop the vehicle. The vehicle is in motion in snowy or rainy conditions, this happens only when ABS is engaged. This also happened last year, 2017, I should have reported this last year as well.

I was braking on a slippery road and the ABS activated. The brake pedal then became very soft. If I pump the brakes the pedal then feels normal unitl any subsequent activation of the ABS brakes and the pedal goes to the floor and the car is difficult to stop. The brake fluid level is fine and no brake lights come on - however in a panic stop this could lead to the vehicle not being able to stop.

Last month, in September 2018 I was parking my car, and braking to do so. I went over a small pot hole in the road. Later when I went to drive it the brakes were squishy and went to the floor to stop. This problem seemed to get better, but then last week I had another driver pull in front of me and had to drive off the road to avoid a collision as the brakes did not engage properly. Now they go all the way to the floor to brake. I bought this car used back in June, asked the dealer representative about the brake issues when my airbag was fixed, and he said he knew nothing about it. The vehicle has 33,000 miles on it as the previous owner was an elderly woman. I know this is an ABS issue. My mechanic told me there is an investigation but right now this would cost like 1000$. - and from what I am reading it could just happen again. Please do something. The contact owns a 2007 Mercury Milan. While driving approximately 30 mph, the brakes failed and the brake pedal became stuck to the floorboard. Immediately, the contact placed the vehicle into neutral and coasted to a nearby parking lot. The contact restarted the vehicle and depressed the brake pedal several times in an attempt to correct the recurring failure. Towne Ford (3535 southwestern blvd, orchard park, New York 14127, (716) 662-6500) was contacted and stated that there was no recall on the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 98,000.

I was driving in town at around 30mph. My ABS warning light came on. The car started making a strange noise. Then when breaking the back breaks seemed to be trying to lock up. Then the passenger airbag warning light came on. After this happened all my gauges including my speedometer, blinkers, headlights, RPM, etc. Became inoperable. I am not able to drive the car at all due to this issue.

I don't recall exactly when this issues started but it was at least 2015 possibly 2014. When an ABS event occurs, the brake pedal goes soft, to the floor, and takes longer to brake. The pedal continues to be soft for about a day initially before returning to normal. Now it occurs for extended periods of time. This requires to start braking earlier and leave lots of space between my car and the car in front of me which isn't always possible in traffic. The tires tend to slide on wet road conditions normally but the braking issue makes it worse. Very scary. I have been overly cautious and have had many close calls but not had an accident by some miracle. Removing the two ABS fuses (8 & 10) which has helped but this resulted in the ABS and brake light to be on permanently. With the brake light on, car will not pass inspection. But with the fuse in, if my pedal is soft and goes to the floor before braking, it will not pass inspection either. A google search resulted in the following videos: 1) https://www.youtube.com/watch?V=0R46_unyyk8 2) https://www.youtube.com/watch?V=vwflkcxxzty google it and numerous other videos will be easily found. Note: Date, mileage, and speed in following questions were estimated. I know approximately when it started. Reporting a safety issue in this manner was not an option that I was aware of.

The ABS system isn't working properly, and the brakes are very spongy, making it unsafe to drive the car. This started when I was braking at 40 mph and hit a mild bump in the road triggering the ABS to activate briefly. The brakes have been inconsistently spongy ever since, and not consistently spongy rendering the brakes unpredictable as well as intermittently unresponsive. The brake fluid is fine, the master cylinder is not leaking, and the brake pads and calipers are functioning properly. This appears to be an ABS pump/actuator issue.
