The contact owns a 2009 Mercury Mariner. While the vehicle was at a stop, the steering wheel module seized and the steering lost power. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was turned off and restarted, but the failure recurred several times. The vehicle was taken to town and county Ford (6015 preston hwy, louisville, ky 40219, 502-964-8131) where it was diagnosed that the steering wheel module needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall. The part was replaced at the contact's expense. The failure mileage was approximately 89,000.
