This has worsened over the years, but just as the Ford Escape has gas pedal sticking issues, my Mercury Mariner does it as well, and similarly it too worsens as the temperature drops. What makes this a problem in my opinion is that the pedal sticks, the force needed to 'unstick' it or accelerate then is so great your RPM's are far greater than when what they should be when leaving a stop in traffic etc.
