I had to have to replace the intake manifold after only about 88000 miles. This car ran really beautifully after that for 8 years up to 128,000

Ford - Mercury changed away from a metal intake manifold to a plastic manifold to save manufacturing costs. They are now reaping service revenue because they are charging non-fleet consumers a hefty $1,500. to replace the defectively designed part. There was a court case which they settled, but it excludes claims after March 2006. For low mileage drivers this was not long enough for the part to fail. But fail it will at approximately 75,000 miles. I'll certainly consider this next time I buy, which will be very soon...
