The car was purchase new in April 2019 and was perfect for 8months and 8000 miles, then I hit a pot hole on SC Hwy 200 outside of Lancaster on my way to my daughters home. Next morning after starting and driving the car for a qtr mile, the check tire warning came on, so went back to my daughters. They are Pirelli P Zero run flats with no spare. On checking the tire I found a split in the wall and no tire pressure. Although it says you can drive on run flats for 30miles, I needed to go the Charlotte Saturday morning to find a tire. Upon removal of the wheel, I saw that the rear tire was split also, so removed that wheel and took them both to Rick Hendrix Mercedes in Charlotte NC, They replaced the tires and balanced at my cost and I put the wheel back on the car. Then the nightmare started. There was a vibration that at 60mph I could feel and hear at 80mph quite noisy. Over the past 3 years the car has been back to Mercedes in Hilton head and now Charlotte 12 times to fix the same noise problem. After replacing 5 bent wheel rims, always on the inside out of sight, 7 tires worn out because of track misalignment, new front disk rotors and pads, new transmission mount, I agreed to get rid of the run flats and replace them with quality Michelin tires. Upon completion of the work, they test drive the car and report that they still have the noise and that there is another rim bent. So far I have spent $10,800.00 on none warranty repairs excluding the current costs which I have not been told how much yet.
Looking at the history, I think the rims are so weak that they bend the rim when they remove and reinstall old and /or new tires, which does not show up on balancing unless they are looking for the inside bent rim. Charlotte Mercedes wont say directly that the car has weak inferior rims but they do have a service that comes by regularly to straighten the damaged rims. I have reported this problem to Mercedes Benz USA in Atlanta but have heard nothing. They didn't seem interested in doing anything.
As of today, the nightmare continues, they have had the car since Friday August 30th to replace the tires and I still don't have a car. I am not sure what to do next???? I have to drive in an S to miss road patches and cannot go more that 60mph without annoying noise and Vibration.
Any suggestions would be helpful. SC Lemon Law relates to the first 12mths or 12000 miles so that is not an option for me. Thanks for Listening David Dixon.
