The problem came to light when checking a Check Engine Light. The Indy reported the solenoids on the air intake manifold were defective. Mercedes only sell the complete intake manifold with new solenoids! This is unacceptable! To throw away a complete intake manifold instead of replacing the solenoids is a huge waste of resources.

This car was driven by a lady to church and the grocery store. Low miles and well maintained but the balance shaft failed at 71,000 miles. Seems like everything that I read on the internet says that this is a common problem with this car.

How can a company of this repute can design an engine the has problems with the balance shaft between 50-70k miles? My car has no problem at the moment, but engine service light is on all the time. The cam shaft sensors were replaced the problem still exists. A mechanic suspects that it could be the balance shaft problem. It was quoted to cost $4000-5000. It looks like a law suit is pending for this issue. I hope the company pays for this. These cars cost 50-60k. I have a Honda Pilot, such a brilliant car, It has 100,000 miles, runs like new. The worst part is that everyone says, it is not sure when the problem will occurs, once occurs the engine will not function. I really like the car a lot, but I can not drive it longer than 20 miles because I am afraid that the car may stall. What a pity, after having a beautiful performance car, but cannot drive it. It is so sad, I hope MB takes these issues seriously and do not make blunders like this. It is a disgrace for the prestigious company like MB. I hope they will pay for the repair. LP
