Noticed a strong gas smell after fill ups. Brought the car to the dealer expecting it to be a seal or something but found out that the top of the tank is prone to cracking around the inlet. When the fuel is full it leaks. Apparently this is a common problem with the E class. Seems very dangerous to have a car that is only a few years old that has a problem with a leaky gas tank" I think it cost between 2K and 3K to replace the tank. I really don't think a car that is that expensive, that new should have a issue like this"

After filling the gas tank, I noticed a strong odor after I got home and got out of car. After further inspection I noticed puddle of gas on drivers side of car just in front of rear tire. This happens every time now when I fill up the gas tank. My short term resolution until this can be fixed is to not fill up gas tank all the way.

E320 6-cyl Diesel

  • 107,000 miles
Noticed a strong gasoline odor emanating from the rear of the car. On further investigation, I discovered that there was fuel pooling underneath the drivers side back seat and that two electrical wires were submerged in the fuel collecting underneath the seat. The fuel originated from a crack near the top of the fuel sending unit. This is a potential fire hazard not to mention the significant health issues to all passengers including the nine year old that is transported in this vehicle. This is a known issue and should be thoroughly investigated.
