This car was exceptionally clean for being 17 years old, which speaks volumes about how it was treated. With only 108,000 original miles, the transmission began having problems. I would be driving down the road, whether cruising or accelerating it didn't matter, and the transmission would slip into neutral. Over about 1,000 mile period, it got increasingly worse to the point that the car was not safety driveable anymore. I took the car to a local mechanic who inspected the transmission and said it needed to be rebuilt at the tune of $2,500. I've been told this is cheap, which I find shocking. I expected far better from a Mercedes-Benz. I've owned Japanese, Swedish, and domestic cars. Never have I had a transmission fail, especially at such low mileage! I was outraged. I've always loved Mercedes (and still do), but I won't be buying another one anytime soon. Any car that needs $2,500 worth of work at only 108,000 miles isn't worth my consideration and deserves some bad-mouthing. This was a very disappointing car that had many MANY problems beside the transmission.
