At 78,000 miles, my power moonroof failed to open. I thought it was a simple failed switch. When I took it into my local Mazda dealer, they indicated that the cable system which retracts the moonroof into the roof of the vehicle had broken and that the only way to repair it was to completely replace the entire moonroof unit at a cost of $1400! I had purchased an extended warrantey and after some haggling with the carrier who issued the coverage contract, they agreed to pick up the cost, less my contract deductible of $200. Even though the vehicle had 78,000 miles, it was only 3 years at the time. You would except longer service from such a unit.
